MARCH Madness!

History has shown us MARCH madness is a great time to be in KC with the tournament here at the Sprint Center. Here are His & Her Fitness we also go mad for MARCH because just around the corner is SPRING AND SUMMER! You still have time to shave some body fat and feel great in shorts, tanks and most importantly develop some healthy habits that stick with you during the unique schedule in the summer.

We have two teams, the purple and black team (H&H colors of course!) The black team is all clients that set SMART GOALS with Adrian Iliescu, Terrilyn Schmanke and Rob Crane. The purple team is all clients that set SMART GOALS with Emilie Haynes and Christina Larson. By the numbers the black team has the edge so set those goals and your trainers will be able to win with you. Shirts to the winners and nothing for the losers! Other catch is if you are on the winning team and not reaching your goals then no shirt for you! I know every year this can be a little friendly competition but the truth is without goals how will we ever have a purpose to have a standard of the life we like to live. So trust the expert team and we are so excited to take advantage of the MARCH MADNESS ENERGY!

Here's the thing. You cannot get rid of the H&H team. No matter what you do, or don't do, this dedicated group will be with you day in, day out, rain, or shine. Whether you achieve your goals, or backslide, or both, they will be with you through it all - supporting you, encouraging you, and helping you get back on track to achieving your own fitness goals.

I came to H&H in 2011 after a hiking trip during which I had trouble keeping up with people much older than me. OK, it was a hide through the Canadian Rockies and many of the participants grew up on the trail and were used to the altitude. But I should have fared better. After my evaluation, Christina designed a program for me that was challenging but achievable with patience, determination and consistency. Together, and with the help and encouragement of H&H trainers throughout the years, we have improved my balance, coordination, health, strength and overall fitness. They even got me back to lap swimming, something I had walked away from 18 years earlier.

I have had a few setbacks along the way. One surgery, one broken bone, and a couple of family deaths but through it all, I kept up the parts of the program that I could manage, all with the encouragement of the team who waited patiently for my return. I am emerging from a setback now and have set the goals that will help me not only return to my previous fitness level but exceed it. I know that the encouragement and support I have always gotten from Christina, Adrian, Rob, Terrilyn, and Emilie will be there for me again. Because as I said, you cannot get rid of the H&H team.

March Madness is upon us...where in the world did January and February go?? If you're like many people out there, any new year's health and fitness goals you set for yourself on January 1st have fallen by the wayside by now. That's why I am SUPER excited about the March Madness challenge underway at H&H! We continue to find fun ways to keep you goal-oriented and results-focused! And I am proud to be a part of a team of trainers that truly care about your long-term success.

Something to remember as we progress through this new month - it's all about being your best YOU! Yes, there's a friendly challenge going on between trainers and therefore, clients. But YOUR fitness journey belongs to you. It has taken me many years to realize that it's not about what your friend or spouse or boss is doing with their health or fitness goals or the results THEY are trying to achieve. You shouldn't be comparing yourself to other people to set goals or gauge success. Your goals should be based upon what it takes to be your best self. You will see others setting goals on how much water to drink or how many inches to lose and thank "me too!". NO!! Don't do that. At the end of the day, you should be asking yourself "what obstacles keep me from reaching my ultimate health/wellness/fitness goal?" and then set interim goals that move you closer to that ultimate success measure. And remember, your journey to your best you is a marathon, not a sprint. So when March is over, don't throw away the new habits you built as a result of March goals. Continue those good habits and set new April goals to propel you towards being the awesome individual you were meant to be. And then put that behavior on repeat! Just think where you'll be by December when we look back over all of the success you've had in 2018!

So, have fun with the process and the March Madness challenge. Good luck to all and may the best (Black) team win!!!
