The new year is here. Sierra Roots is happy to share the highlights and successes of the past year. Because of your support and generosity, we are now moving into new directions toward fulfilling our primary vision of building a supportive community village of small homes and a community center for our chronically homeless neighbors here in Nevada County.  Sierra Roots serves approximately 70 of these individuals - men and women who now live in their cars, under the bridges or in camps on the outskirts of town, many of whom are living with chronic mental challenges. Sierra Roots serves two hot meals a week, opens a Cold Weather Shelter throughout the winter.

We continue to act as advocates for those who are in jail, need a room to stay while recovering from illness, or need help getting their legal requirements complet ed. We provide transportation to doctor's appointments and Court appointments. We have also assisted two young men to return home to their families. We encourage those who are ready to enter rehab programs, and advocate for them to find housing after they graduate.
Now Sierra Roots has a plan to expand services for these homeless people. They need homes. They need a legal address. They need a permanent and safe place to sleep at night. They need a community of support and caring around them, with good food, warm and safe places to sleep, connections to job offerings, purposeful work and goals.
Sierra Roots has found a beautiful and functional piece of property that is zoned perfectly for building the small home supportive community that we have always envisioned . We are ready to move forward with this project. With your help.

We are ready to begin if you will partner with us; if you would invest in a village that will serve these homeless people. This project is projected to cost up to two million for purchasing the land, building the community center, and up to forty small permanent ho mes for those who are ready to step into a new, more productive life.

Sierra Roots has welcomed newly appointed chairperson, Caryl Fairfull, a Sierra Roots Advocate, to manage the mil lion dollar Village Fundraisin g Campaign. You will hear from her in January, 2018. VOLUNTEER MEETINGS

Next Monthly Volunteer Meeting:
January 11th, Thursday, at 1 PM
First Methodist Church ~ 433 Broad Street, Nevada City
 info@sierraroots.org *  530 264-5113

Our monthly meetings are intended for those who are just becoming acquainted with Sierra Roots and want to learn more about the various volunteer opportunities,  as well as for those already involved so everyone is up to date, informed and involved in discussion and planning.

Not everyone is aware of the many ways Sierra Roots engages and builds community with our homeless friends while we continue to look for land for our Village.  For example, Sierra Roots operates an emergency weather shelter, serves meals twice weekly, and provides advocacy services, to homeless individuals. You can learn about these and other volunteer opportunities at our monthly meetings.
