Do you use the term "hormonal" as an excuse for your bird's unpleasant behaviors, or does your bird actually have hormonal episodes? Maybe sometimes a medical response is helpful? Let's talk about hormonal issues with Dr. Octavio Romo-Flamand from SEAVS. It's an important topic to understand since birds will have these natural instincts.
The Parrots of Trinidad
Thanks to an invitation from Bernadette Plair and her colleagues, John Kerns joined a team of educators in Trinidad to help the local population learn more about how to care for the macaws in their homes.  It was a great success!

Some of Our Many Adoptable Birds
Almost every bird will need more than one home. Sometimes it is because people have not taken time to understand how to live successfully with a parrot; but most often it is simply because our lives change. It's no ones fault, it's just what needs to happen. So it is really important that we promote adoption as a positive way to find a bird companion.  To l earn more about our process go to  phoenixlanding.org/adoption.
BOO is a funny, social, smart Quaker, estimated to be between 5 and 9 years old. He had a foot injury years ago, prior to coming to Phoenix Landing, but it does not slow him down. He is a strong flier - weaving through doorways and around corners with grace and style. He would enjoy being in a home where he can safely fly. He is clear in his body language, once you learn to read it. He'll let you know what he wants and what he does not want. In his foster home, he's known to go over to the nutriberry tub and rattle it, and will then graciously return to his cage for the delivery of said treat. He is a social bird and will fly to you when he wants to interact or receive a head scritch. He seems most comfortable stepping onto a flat surface like a flat hand, arm, or knee, perhaps because of his foot issue. Does Boo sound like the right bird for your family?
DENNY  is a very young Australian cinnamon lovebird, born in July 2017. His relinquisher is moving and could not take him. He just arrived but we are told that he loves to fly and spend as much time out of the cage as possible. Supposedly he will land on your head or shoulder and gives kisses. He currently eats some pellet crumbles and fresh foods. We're giving him a more spacious cage and hope that he can safely continue to fly in his future home.  Such great exercise for mind and body!
BRAZIL 2018, Our Next Ecotour August 23 - 31
There is an abundance of wildlife to see in the Pantanal of Brazil, especially macaws, Amazons, and conures. Our next tour may already be full (registrations pending), but if you are interested in joining us, please let us know soon.  This  low impact 7 night/8 day adventure takes us into the Pantanal where we will experience and observe wild parrots up close and marvel at their beauty, ingenuity, and social dynamics. 2018 "Step-Up" Workshop Dates
                     Towel training
2018 workshop dates March 23-25 (almost full) and August 10-12. This intensive 3-day event is designed to give people an abundance of information about parrot care,  from behavior and health, to nutrition and enrichment. In addition to lectures, there will be hands-on  training sessions, cooking classes, and time to discuss issues of specific importance to you. We will work with  the adoptable birds at the Phoenix Landing facility, so you can teach behavior, foraging and feeding new foods first hand. All of us can learn new things to improve our relationships with our parrots. Anyone with parakeets to macaws will benefit!  More information at:   phoenixlanding.org/stepup-workshops
