Roxbury's K-6 STEAM Expo Tomorrow at EMS!
At the Roxbury K-6 STEAM Expo, students in grades K-6 prepare and present their own projects and investigations in science, technology, and engineering with connections to art and math. In addition to K-6 students observing and interacting with each other's projects, they will be able to tour the middle school's STEAM room and learn about the various future opportunities they will have with our technology clubs, Roxbotics team, and our middle school STEAM program. We will have local businesses, PTA's, PTO's and Roxbury teachers running various activity tables where students will be able to engage in fun hands on STEAM activities. Some of the local vendors include the Bayer Corporation, Mad Science of Morris and Sussex County, Engineering for Kids of Morris County, Roxbury Twp. Clean Communities, Morris County Municipal Utilities Authority, and the Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey. The mission of the Roxbury STEAM EXPO is to motivate and develop the passion of all learners. We support the achievements of our students as they prepare to become leaders and innovators in STEAM and 21st Century Careers. Click here for more information on the K-6 STEAM Expo.
Roxbury School's Joint Security Presentation
The Roxbury Board of Education held a joint meeting with the Roxbury Town Council and the Roxbury Board of Education on Monday, March 5th in the Roxbury High School Auditorium at 1 Bryant Drive in Succasunna. The purpose of the joint meeting was to provide a district security presentation with Roxbury School's Director of Security, James Simonetti and Roxbury Chief of Police, Marc Palanchi.
The Roxbury Town Council and Board of Education wanted to share with the community what is being done in Roxbury Township to keep its students, staff, and community members safe. This joint forum afforded the public the chance to see and hear the partnership between the two groups as both work towards a healthy and safe school environment for all where learning can be the focus for the students.

More information on this board meeting will be in next week's newsletter.
Roxbury Renews Recycling Focus on the Fields
Roxbury Schools is renewing its focus on recycling and working with the township's Clean Communities to make sure the outside of schools are being addressed just as much as the inside.
As the weather turns to spring (eventually), you'll start to notice new additions to our fields and outside areas. At the different locations on school property and around town, you'll see side-by-side containers, one for trash and one for bottles and cans.
We need everyone's help to keep our fields and courts clean and each of us needs to do our part, so please be sure to use the proper container when using these areas!
Let's all do our part to keep our community beautiful and clean! Click here to read this on our website!

Nixon School Celebrates 100th Day of School
Kindergarteners at Nixon Elementary School in Abigail Scales, Linda Brajer, and Kelly Quinty's class celebrated the 100th Day of School on Friday, February 16th. To mark the occasion, the students made "100 Days Smarter" crowns and participated in a variety of cross-curricular activities in the classroom surrounding the number 100.
Kindergarten students engaged in many place value based math explorations and learned that 100 is the same as 10 groups of 10, practiced counting by ones and tens to 100, and practiced writing their numbers from 1 to 100 on a hundreds chart. Click here to read more about how Nixon Kindergarteners celebrated!
Nixon's Early Act Celebrates 100th Day of School
Nixon Elementary School's Early Act Club took up the challenge once again to take part in Connect for Community as part of their 100th Day of School 2018 celebration.
Connect for Community
created this program to show children what 100 cents can buy. The basic premise of the program asks students to bring in one personal hygiene product that they use every day. Many of those items, such as soap, toothpaste and toilet paper, are not covered by food stamps, yet they are necessities in life. Items suggested are for children of each grade level.
Nixon School once again answered the call collecting 334 items in the K-4 school. The Kindergarten class brought in 153 toothbrushes while the first grade brought in 42 tubes of toothpaste. Second graders collected 20 hair brushes, third graders collected 17 bottles of shampoos and conditioners, with the fourth grade bringing in 102 bars of soap. Click here to read more about this collection and how it affects our community!

Students in Jenn Maurer, Robin Hellyer, and Kristina Holsman's Kindergarten classes decorated t-shirts with 100 items and participated in a fashion show.
"We all counted to 100 while forming the number 100 out of students! In our classrooms we continued the excitement with special activities all about the number 100 the entire day," shared Mauer. Click here to read more from our website!

Roxbury and Randolph Mountain Bikers Ride With National Champion
A youth mountain bike team made up of students from Roxbury and Randolph, recently had the opportunity to ride some local trails with with Katie Compton, a 14-time winner of the elite women's class USA Cycling Cyclocross National Championships.
The event, arranged by Marty's Reliable Cycle and Trek, brought Compton from her home in Colorado all the way to New Jersey for a short visit following her last race of the season in Belgium. The days leading up to the event consisted of weather ranging from freezing temperatures in the teens to drenching rain. That, combined with a deep cut to her knee sustained in her final race, resulted in some wondering if the event would go off as planned. Click here to read more from Tap Into Roxbury.

Roxbury Arts Alliance Presents a St. Patrick's Celebration of Celtic Music - Mar 10th

Charlie Zahm is one of the most popular soloists at Celtic music festivals, Maritime, and American Traditional music events anywhere east of the Mississippi.
