A special message from our CEO and Board President
As the year winds down, we can't thank you enough for being a part of the JFS Delaware family and for your generous support of our mission: to strengthen individual, families and the community by providing counseling and support services. Inspired by the fundamental Jewish value that we are all responsible for one another, JFS Delaware enters its 119th year supporting people of all backgrounds by assisting families through life transitions, helping youth and children grow stronger, and ensuring the safety and dignity of older adults.

In 2017 JFS Delaware was able to:
  • Provide counseling services, by our trusted clinical staff, to over 1,500 individuals,
  • Resettle 24 refugees who were escaping terrifying circumstances to a safe and welcoming Delaware,
  • Send energetic Youth Advocates into the community to provide support, life skills and prevention services to over 550  kids,
  • Support almost 300 of our most vulnerable seniors and their desire to age safely and independently, with the help of our indispensable JFS Village volunteers, and
  • Expand services in Newark and Sussex County.
JFS Delaware is truly making a difference one person at a time, and we know that there is still much more to be done and many more people in need.  Please consider supporting the annual JFS Delaware Friends Campaign, so we can continue to grow and serve more individuals and families.  Thank you for your commitment to our community.

The Brandywine Village Network of JFS Delaware hosted the 4th Annual Holiday Tea for members and volunteers. Everyone enjoyed celebrating the holidays and spending time together!
JFS Holiday Program
The JFS Delaware Holiday Program was a success again this year!

Our generous community was able to provide gifts and good holiday spirit to 20 families (a total of 80 people!) for this season.  Thanks to all who helped us make the holidays a little brighter for those in need and for helping us fulfill the mitzvot of chesed (compassion) and g'melut chasadim (acts of kindness).

Public Ally Update

JFS is thrilled to have Maddie Driban, a Public Ally, on board and working hard to help us grow our programs and services. Since joining us in September, Maddie has been instrumental in the coordination and execution of the inaugural Movies That Matter film series event, has completed thorough research on models and systems to update current programs, and has taken impressive initiative in the coordination of this year's Holiday Program (formerly "Adopt-A-Family"). In the months to come, she will continue her capacity-building research and work on our diverse programs, including - but not limited to - the Refugee Integration Support Effort and the Brandywine Village Network. We are grateful to have Maddie working diligently with our staff and for the opportunity to partner with Public Allies Delaware. Public Allies is an AmeriCorps program, identifying diverse young adults and preparing them for leadership through non-profit apprenticeships, community service projects, and skills trainings or workshops to foster personal and professional growth; Public Allies serve specifically in capacity building positions to ensure the sustainability of their efforts after their 10-month service term has ended. (Public Allies Delaware is run through the University of Delaware Center for Community Research and Service) and we want to thank the Laffey-McHugh Foundation for generously supporting a portion of this position at JFS.
