Study says protective packaging may be needed to prevent milk from LED light damage
Researchers at the Department of Food Science at Cornell University in the US have studied the effect of LED light on milk, and found the best method of protection may be through packaging - as long as the product resembles those currently available, or consumers are educated about the need for changing to different packaging. Gold-level Member Spotlight - Baldwin Richardson Foods
Emphasis on People Fuels Company Growth

Baldwin Richardson Foods recently completed its first year as a Gold-level Member in the Cornell Institute for Food Systems Industry Partnership Program. The company discovered a number of ways to collaborate with Cornell during its first year of membership. Baldwin Richardson Foods utilized access to faculty to discuss product development needs and concepts for innovative new products and also invited faculty to speak at its Liquid Product Technical Team meeting. Given the company's interest in engaging with top food science students, it hosted a group of students at its Innovation Center in conjunction with the annual IFT conference.
 
Baldwin Richardson Foods renewed its Gold-level Membership. Sharon Webster-Tolin, Baldwin Richardson Foods' Senior Director of Marketing and Innovation, serves on the CIFS-IPP Steering Committee and shared her perspective about the company and the elements behind its success and interest in continued collaboration with Cornell. Winter Tastemakers Gathering
On January 10th and 11th, industry leaders throughout the food system convened at the Cornell University Department of Food Science's Stocking Hall for the CIFS-IPP Winter Tastemakers Gathering. Highlights of the gathering included a faculty panel discussing innovation at the intersection of taste, nutrition, and brand experience, a presentation detailing a "Whole food approach for chronic disease prevention and healthy aging," a description of Cornell Dining's Chef Chemistry class, and a North America consumer trends overview presented by Mintel. Attendees also enjoyed a festive seasonal reception and the opportunity to participate in a dairy ideation session hosted by the National Dairy Council. SoAR with Dr. Carmen Moraru
To conquer the many challenges faced by farmers, families and the food industry S upporters of Agricul tural Research ( SoAR) is working together with teams of scientists s howcasing research from educational institutions throughout the country. "  Retaking the Field: Volume 3: Empowering Agricultural Sciences for Health " features   Dr. Carmen Moraru of Cornell  University, Dr. Diana-Andra Borca-Tasciuc of Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, and their teams who collaborated to develop a structural, non-chemical solution to food-borne ilness causing biofilms: a non-stick surface.  L earn more about it here .
