HOLIDAY CHEER:
 The Honor Council raised $1,500 for the Greene County Women's holiday gifts for disadvantaged children. The Parent Association's Shop With a Baron event was also a great success. SWAB raised $1,330, and twenty students participated. 

On Sunday, the traditional Blue Ridge School Festival of Lessons and Carols took place in Gibson Memorial Chapel presented by the musicians, choir and speakers of the community including a children's choir.

On Wednesday, December 13, Mr. Tony Brown took the junior proctors to the Stanardsville Ruritan club where they distributed gifts to disadvantaged children. Meanwhile, a number of students currently taking a foreign language caroled through the academic halls and in classrooms in Spanish, Portuguese and Mandarin.  For a video, click here.

PERFORMANCE: Mr. Mike Vinson's third period students performed "Let It Snow" at Wednesday's morning assembly. Duong Dang '19 played the violin. Yuto Hiraki '21, Howard Jiang '19, Min Woo Ki '21, Yonas Weldegeorgis '18 and Mr. Hermanson played guitar. For the video, click here.
 
BLOOD DRIVE: Members of the Order of St. George National Honor Society assisted the Virginia Blood Services in the second blood drive of this school year.
 
S.P.E.A.R.: 
Athletic Director Bryan Puckett and the current scholar-athletes who were named members of S.P.E.A.R. (Service, Perseverance, Endurance, Academics, Respect) earlier this year announced the most recent recipients of this award during Wednesday morning's assembly. Javier Acevedo-Lopez '19, Keegan Kozach '20 and Katiso Tlelima '18 presented JaShaun Anderson '19, Taku Endo '18 and Souley Sylla '18 with the recognition.
 
COLLEGE COUNSELING:
Congratulations to Katiso Tlelima on his acceptance to Linn University! Spencer Cadieux was accepted to the University of North Carolina, Wilmington!
 
Mrs. Wilkins will be available at awilkins@blueridgeschool.com over the break for those students or parents who have any questions about college applications that are due by January 1.
 
ATHLETICS: The Barons' JV and varsity basketball teams hosted Millwood School on Tuesday, December 5. Both the varsity and JV squads won 84-71 and 88-15.  For photos, click here
 
On Thursday, December 7, the Squires basketball team traveled to VES for their first game of the season. The Squires led all the way to bring home a 31-30 win.
 
This past weekend (December 8 and 9) , the varsity basketball team competed in the Buckeye Showcase in Portsmouth, Ohio, where they won their first game 74-54 Friday evening against the Toronto Basketball Academy. The team lost 75-64 to Liberty Charter the following day.
 
The varsity and JV squads then traveled to Hopewell High School in Hopewell, Virginia, on Tuesday, December 12.  The varsity team lost 73-67.  Earlier that evening, the JV squad suffered its first defeat of the young season 67-59.  JV Coach Peter Cole commented that his team members had played their hearts out.
