How-to High School
Pre-Season
Pre-season is here and it is TIME!
Time to buckle down and get to work.
Here are some tips for the High School ladies out there!

Pitchers : location, location, location! At this point you should be working on hitting your spots with your fastball as well as locating your movement pitches. The time to increase speed has passed, now is the time for control.
LFP instructors will be checking your fundamentals for flaws during your warm ups, then helping you maintain that speed and endurance with a small amount of speed work but the majority of your lessons will be dedicated to location. Part of location lessons will be spent charting your pitches. It is important that we chart your pitches so that when you go into games you will know which are your three BEST pitches and which pitches you will use as your....
  1. "Go-to" pitch - when you need that strike. This is the pitch that you know and trust more than any other, often the pitch you use when you are behind in the count.
  2. "Strike out pitch" - usually your best movement or off-speed. This pitch is used to shut the batter down. You can hit your spot with it, it can fool the batter, and you can get a swing and a miss 8/10 times!
  3. "Off pitch" - this is a pitch you use to try and make the batter chase the ball. Usually used when you are ahead in the count. We never want to give the batter anything too good when we are ahead in the count, but it must be a pitch that is good enough to get the batter to swing!

Do you know what your "Go-to", "Strike Out", and "Off Pitch" are? If you can't answer these questions schedule your lesson because we're here to help! We will give you honest feedback and help you develop a game plan for a successful season!
The fastest pitcher doesn't always win, most often the SMARTEST AND MOST WELL PREPARED will win.
Hitting/Fielding: Confidence is key! Fundamental flaws are hard to fix in a short period of time so now you should be focusing on building up the confidence to perform in different situations. Less repetitions focusing on form and more repetitions focusing on situations. When taking ground balls you want to practice the way you'll play. When hitting off the tee you want to give yourself scenarios - different counts, outs, runners on base. Practice being successful physically and mentally.
Start practicing before bed! Every night before you go to sleep imagine yourself performing 10 times at an exceptional level:
-Hitting the game winning RBI.
-Bunting the runner to second and beating the throw.
-Fielding a challenging one hopper and getting the base-runner.
-Making the diving catch!
-Turning two!
The more you envision your success the more success you will have. Mental practice is as important as physical!

All of the LFP hitting and fielding instructors work on inner confidence as well as skills. If you need to work on things such as contact or overhand accuracy - we are here for you! But also if you just need a boost in your confidence we are experts at helping you reach your potential and most importantly helping you realize how good you really are and how great you can be!
