Lake Nona Middle School

This is our final school week of the third quarter. It is only a four day week for the students as there is no school on Friday while their teachers finalize report card grades. The next week the students will be away on their spring break.

Thank you to so many of our parents for completing this year's online parent survey as it closes out on Wednesday, March 14th. It is important for us to hear from everyone. Therefore, if you have a student at LNMS and still have not completed the survey, there is still time to complete it and have your voice heard.

On Tuesday we will be holding our monthly SAC (5:30 PM) and PTSA (7:00 PM) meetings. As always, all members of our school community are welcome to attend and we encourage them to do so.

Thank you for looking over our progress and have a great week!

In Knights Honor,

Stephanie R. Jackson, M. Ed.
Principal, Lake Nona Middle School

Knight Sports
The Lady Knights girls' basketball team lost 34-36 in an extremely intense battle against a very talented Chain of Lakes team on Tuesday night. We were up 15-12 at the half, but unfortunately came out flat going into the 3rd quarter. Chain of Lakes scored 12 points to our 6, putting them in the lead 21-24 at the end of the 3rd quarter. At one point in the 4th quarter we were down by 6. During a time-out, Taliyah Moore told her teammates, 'it's not over yet' and they responded. Moore really stepped up defensively as she guarded one of their best players. After 3 back-to-back steals and fast break lay-ups by our Knights, just like that, we had tied the game. The game was back and forth the entire end of the 4th. Our ladies showed tremendous poise, maturity, and growth during the end of the game when things were very close and hectic, attempting to execute everything their coach was saying and drawing up. Above all, our ladies showed a lot of heart and grit. Unfortunately, we ended up 2 points short. Anaya Brown led our Knights with 16 points. We are extremely proud of our young Lady Knights and look forward to their comeback next year. Our Lady Knights ended their regular season tied for 1st place in the Division and had an overall winning record of 6-2.

Our boys played away at Legacy Tuesday and had a fun filled game in store for everyone. At one point, our boys were down by as many as 14 points and going into the second half they were down by 10 points. It wasn't until the 4th quarter that our boys really stepped up their game and were determined not to end their season just yet. While slowly cutting down on that 10 point deficit and not giving up, our boys found themselves tied at 41-41 with 14 seconds left in on the clock. Having possession of the ball, Felix Mejica begins the offense with 10 seconds left, makes a pass to the wing, receives the pass back, penetrates into the defense drawing defenders, and makes the game winning pass/assist! Seventh grader Amaury Rios knocks down the open jump shot with 4 seconds left in the game to win it for our Knights! Off to the Elite 8 we go!

Thursday's playoff game against College Park was a little different for our gentlemen. We fell behind early and just could not cut the deficit against a very quick, athletic, and skilled College Park basketball team that in appearance happened to look like a bunch of high schoolers. Our Knights really made us proud by never giving up and fighting until the final buzzard.

Congratulations to both of our basketball teams for winning seasons!

Thank you,

Irimar Hernandez, Athletic Director

International Women's Day at LNMS
Students and staff celebrated International Women's Day by wearing purple.

What is International Women's Day?

International Women's Day is a worldwide event that celebrates women's achievements - from the political to the social - while calling for gender equality. The day is also a call to action through events large and small focusing on equality.

It has been observed since the early 1900s and is now recognized each year on March 8. It is not affiliated with any one group, but brings together governments, women's organizations, corporations and charities. The day is marked around the world with arts performances, talks, rallies, networking events, conferences and marches.
