Mandatory Senior Parent Meeting will be March 22, 2018 in the Grandi Auditorium. Information on graduation requirements will be covered and paperwork for graduation activities and tickets with be distributed at the meeting.

A MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Dear Camden Catholic Families:
As you know, we have been working over the past few weeks to continue to communicate with our community about school safety and security. Our senior executive student government also met with Bishop Sullivan and other student leaders from the diocese to discuss their reactions as Catholic school students to violence in our schools.
March 14 has been selected as a day for a national school walk-out.
Our students see their role as more healing with prayer than political with demonstrations.
They have asked for 17 minutes of voluntary prayer during each lunch period at school. This would happen on March 14 in the auditorium about 20 minutes into each of the periods. Our seniors will be in Florida and have asked for a special prayer time on March 14.
On April 20, we will have a prayer service at school to remember those lost to violence in schools, pray for an end to school violence, and encourage all students to treat others as Christ would.
We recognize that these national days are very significant for our students as images are in the news and on social media. Please keep the Camden Catholic students and faculty in your prayers as we continue to strengthen our community through the virtues of our Catholic faith.

FROM THE OFFICE OF STUDENT AFFAIRS
School Safety:
As a follow up to Mrs. Crisci's recent email to you regarding our commitment to school safety, we made the decision last week to engage the student body in a discussion concerning our safety protocols and their role in keeping Camden Catholic safe.
On March 1 and March 2, 2018, I conducted school assemblies for all grades for the purpose of reviewing Camden Catholic's safety protocols and fielding any questions the students may have concerning school safety. Prior to meeting with the students, I again reviewed our safety protocols with the Cherry Hill Police Department and they indicated that our safety procedures are consistent with their response needs in the event of a serious safety issue at our school. During the assemblies, I reviewed the safety requirements set forth by the State of New Jersey, wherein we are required, at a minimum, to do one fire drill per month when students are present in the school and at least twice a year we need to conduct the following: lock down drill, lock down active shooter, bomb threat, and non-emergent evacuation. In terms of practicing these protocols, it is important for you, the parent/guardian, to be aware that here at Camden Catholic our lock down drill and our lock down active shooter drill are announced identically; we don't differentiate between the two in terms of implementation. The reason for this is so that there is no unnecessary panic or anxiety associated with these exercises and that our responses remain consistent.
I also reinforced with students that they need to also contribute to the security of the school. I also heavily emphasized two simple, yet very important, requirements that are essential for building security, those are wearing their ID's and locking their lockers. An unsecured locker is a safety risk to the entire Camden Catholic school community. As to the issue of IDs, the inability of school faculty, staff and possibly first responders to accurately identify students in the school can be problematic, especially in a serious security situation.
It is my hope that you will take the time to discuss with your student the importance of the student's role with respect to school safety so that together we can keep Camden Catholic as safe as possible.
One final note, we announced and conducted an active shooter lockdown drill during Activities Period on Friday. The implementation of the drill was outstanding.
Morning Arrival:
As a reminder, the building officially opens at 7AM. All students are to enter the building through the gym entrance (Door C-3) only. Upon entering the building, they need to present their ID to the staff person manning the door. This is an essential security measure to ensure that we know who is entering our school.

WORLD LANGUAGES WEEK
Students visited El Sitio in Collingswood to try empanadas, seco de pollo, arepas and tres leches cake as we celebrated World Languages Week at CCHS. Students shared the CCHS prayer in a different language each day, and signs throughout school indicated locations in various world languages.

Camden Catholic High School Retreat Program
Flowing from our mission to develop leaders in a Catholic faith community, the retreat program at Camden Catholic High School is designed to help students engage with their peers in a meaningful way, to provide a spiritual experience outside the classroom, and demonstrate we can be living our faith in all aspects of our lives. All students at CCHS are required to complete one retreat; many student will complete more than one retreat.
Information about our retreat program has been sent home separately and reviewed in Religion classes.
Sign-up sheets for the optional retreats are located in Rm 114.

Lent is a season of prayer, fasting and almsgiving. Food service on Fridays during Lent will provide meatless menu options only. Additional prayer opportunities will be available during activity period during Lent as a way for students to deepen their relationship with Jesus and prepare for his passion, death and Resurrection.
Catholic Relief Services sponsors the Rice Bowl collection each year during Lent.
CRS Rice Bowl invites students and families to journey alongside the Good Samaritan. With prayers, fasting and almsgiving the Rice Bowl project supports migrants and refugees and others around the world who are seeking safety and opportunity. Rice bowls were distributed on Feb 20th after an inspiring assembly. 25% of the Rice Bowl collection will stay within the Diocese of Camden for nutrition related efforts with 75% going to worldwide efforts of Catholic Relief Services. We encourage students and families to participate in this life transforming program during Lent. Rice Bowls should be returned to school for collection during homeroom on Thursday, March 22nd and Monday, March 26th. Students can also drop off Rice Bowls to Rm 114 any time prior to March 26th.
The Works of Mercy part 1 retreat was postponed to March 21st from 3:00-6:00pm at CCHS due to snow. Students will sign in at the Information Commons. The second part of the retreat will now be on Monday, May 7th from 3:00- 6:00pm at CCHS. For student to meet the school retreat requirement they most attend both retreat sessions. Please check the dates since they have changed to ensure participation in both sessions.
Any student who has not made a retreat for the 2017-2018 school year by March 26th must attend the All School retreat on Wednesday, March 28th to fulfill the yearly retreat requirement. The dining hall will be providing food service on March 28th for those who are attending the All School Retreat.
Paperwork for the Sacramental Awareness Retreat on March 23-24th was sent via RenWeb to parents of students who signed up for this retreat. Permission slip and YCMA camp release form are due by Monday, March 19th and payment is due by Thursday, March 22nd. Please drop off payment and forms to Rm 114. Extra forms for the Sacramental Awareness retreat are available in Rm 114 with Fr. Joe.
Student Activities
SADD (Students Against Destructive Decisions) is coordinating Camden Catholic's participation in the Diocese of Camden Faithfull Food Drive. The Diocese has a goal of 150,000 lbs. of food to be dropped off at various food banks in South Jersey on March 18th. Last day to contribute to the food drive will be March 16th. Items being collected include:

Irish Giving Day
Students who ordered an Irish Giving Day t-shirt last week will be allowed an Irish themed (green, white, Irish gear) dress down day on Thursday March 15th and then will be able to wear the Irish Giving Day t-shirt will their uniform skirts or pants on Friday March 16th for Irish Giving Day.
The Student government will also be sponsoring an "Irish" locker decorating contest. Decorations should be flat so it does not obstruct the hallway and be Irish themed (shamrocks, IGD logo, green, etc. Decorations can NOT include photographs or lights. A Wawa gift card will be awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place for each grade level. Decorating begins Monday, March 12th and judging will take place Wednesday, March 14th. Let's show some Irish spirit!

SENIOR REMINDERS:
College Application Transcript Requests
Just a reminder that there is a fee charged for transcripts sent to colleges. The first 3 are free, additional transcripts are $2 each. Please monitor Naviance for fees. Students can submit payment to the guidance office.
College Acceptances
Seniors should be bringing in all acceptance emails, letters, scholarships etc. They should be brought to Mrs. Powell in the Guidance Office and we will make copies to keep in their file.

From the Nurse's Office
Parents are reminded that all Juniors need a physical. Please schedule appointments if physicals haven't been returned yet and return completed forms to the nurse's office.
If a sports physical becomes a year old during a sport season, there is a 10-day grace period from the date of the last physical to obtain a new one. If no physical is returned at the end of the 10-day grace period, the athlete must sit out of sports until a new physical is returned and cleared. If possible, a courtesy reminder will be sent from the nurse's office, but as noted in the student handbook, it is the responsibility of the student/parent to ensure sports physicals are current.
