When is it permissible to speak about someone who isn't there? When is it forbidden to spread information about another person - whether it is true or not? Incorporating the teachings of the Chafetz Chaim (
the
Jewish "Bible" about gossip), Rabbi Aaron will explore the subtleties of what is considered in Jewish tradition to be one of the most dangerous of human behaviors, "Lashon Hara" (the evil tongue).
Additional date: Tuesday, February 6.

The Plot Against Harry

Temple Emanuel - Weinberg Auditorium
8844 Burton Way, Beverly Hills
|
|
Movie night is back! Please join us for a screening of
The Plot Against Harry.
Roger Ebert wrote about this witty movie:
"There is little joy in the life of Harry Plotnick. He is a low-level hoodlum, a banker for a numbers game in a New York neighborhood that was once Jewish but is now largely Hispanic and black - a neighborhood where he was once a big frog but is now without a pond. Is his numbers empire dissolving as part of a plot against him? Not really, but for Harry so many things are going wrong in so many different ways that life itself seems like a conspiracy aimed at him. Maybe everybody else got up earlier than he did today to attend a meeting on how they were all going to screw him."

One state solution? Two state solution? Status Quo?
In reality, the Israelis and the Palestinians must ultimately learn to live together and to respect one another. In this compelling iEngage presentation, Rabbi Dr. Donniel Hartman explores the disagreements which have torn the Greater Jewish and Israeli community apart. Rabbi Hartman will examine the sociological categories of pluralism, tolerance, and deviance. He will suggest how the diversity within our Jewish communities can create strategies of acceptance and belonging.
Rabbi Joel Levine will moderate a discussion following Rabbi Hartman’s presentation.

The vast majority of adults want to remain in their homes and neighborhoods as they get older, but sometimes this takes a supportive community. ChaiVillageLA is a vibrant, multi-synagogue, multi-generational community that enables congregants to age in place in their own homes by providing assistance to one another and enriching each other’s lives, as part of a self-governing village supported by Jewish values.
