Dear Saint Rose Families,

Today I was fortunate enough to sit as a panelist in Mrs. Brahier's 8th grade religion class. There I saw students provide group presentations on their project based learning projects from the past several months.  I heard three topics, but there were several more. The topics that I saw were: Hunger, Trash and Pollution, and Racism. The students selected these topics and researched how they fell within the social justice teachings and Catechism of the Catholic Church.  Each group interviewed a local expert in the area, identified an action plan and carried out their plan, and shared their results.  One group collected nonperishable food items while trick or treating, shared informational handouts and donated the food to PCU.  Another group volunteered at a Toledo Boys and Girls Club, getting to know the students and eventually taught them some lessons.  The final group that I saw led a collection of used American flags and non-functioning Christmas tree lights.  They were able to recycle 20 flags and 300 lbs. of Christmas tree lights. Their presentations were well organized, and each student was able to articulate what he or she learned in a confident manner.  Their abilities to gather and present information to a group were reason enough for the project, but their connections to their faith demonstrated the true value of their work.  This was an outstanding example of the what is possible at a Catholic School, where all learning passes through the prism of our Catholic Faith!
Please join us on Sunday, January 28 from 1-3 pm for our annual Open House.  It is a great opportunity to see what your child is up to in his or her current grade.  It will also provide you an opportunity to go to the next grade level to get a sneak peek and introduce yourself to the upcoming teachers.  There are a lot of positive things to show at our Open House as we kick off Catholic Schools Week.  Join us for a piece of Saint Rose 150th Birthday Cake, hear some songs from the upcoming Mary Poppins Jr. Musical, see some great student art and more!

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

Students in the Community

Recently, one of our Saint Rose students was invited to take part in the City of Perrysburg's Safety Meeting. The post below is from Councilman Haraz N. Ghanbari's Facebook post. Congratulations Philip Ravas for doing such an outstanding job representing the Saint Rose sponsored Cub Scout Pack 167.

As the chairman of the Perrysburg, Ohio City Council's Safety Committee, I have decided to begin each meeting with the Pledge of Allegiance led by one of our Perrysburg Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts of America or youth.
To begin our first meeting of 2018, I was delighted to welcome Erie Shores Council, Boy Scouts of America scouter Philip Ravas to the City Council Chambers to begin our meeting.
I look forward to having more of our youth involved in our local governance.
Job well done, Philip!
