THIS WEEK AT BLUE RIDGE SCHOOL

March 4, 2018

WHAT A WEEKEND!

Late Thursday, the campus began to experience strong winds and gusts up to 70mph which took out a number of trees, power and phone lines, demolished one of the baseball dugouts and Mr. Bruton's car. Sadly, the beloved stone giraffe's head didn't survive either.

The winds, and thus more damage, continued through Friday and into Saturday. On Friday, there was no way to reach anyone on campus with power out and phones out-of-service. Some power was restored by 8am on Saturday, but not all faculty have WiFi or phone service as of this writing.

Dining Service Director Jonathan and Assistant Director Alexandra came to campus on Friday and Saturday to make sure that the boys who were stranded there had a warm meal. The dining hall's generators kept the kitchen powered, and a fire in the hearth helped give the boys a warm place to spend the evening.

With a power line blocking one entrance, and trees blocking the other, it was a challenge getting the buses off campus on Friday. Somehow the coaches were able to get the varsity basketball team safely to Petersburg for the VISAA Division II semifinals on Friday where they beat VES 71-59. On Saturday, the Barons lost to Miller School in a tough game. Here's an article on how our seniors were instrumental in taking the Barons to the 4th straight state tournament.

Hopefully your son made it home at last. Thank you for your patience and assistance in helping (if your son's travel plans were disrupted)!

Spring Break officially began at 12:30pm on Friday! We're looking forward to seeing the boys on Sunday, March 18. Please contact Hans Hermanson at hhermanson@blueridgeschool.com if you son's travel plans change on the 18th.

SAT TEST FOR JUNIORS: For the first time, we will be offering an SAT School Day Test here on campus on April 24. All juniors will take the SAT in preparation for their college applications and our ability to offer it here gives them one more opportunity to take the SAT. They may still take the test on the National Test Days as well. Look for an email from Amber Wilkins with more details for the parents of juniors. If you have any questions, please contact Amber at awilkins@blueridgeschool.com
