January 25

Sunday, January 28
                                             Worship 10:00 am

Jesus goes into the places where nobody else wants to go. He moves toward the things that might make others run screaming in the other direction. He is unafraid of our "unclean spirits." Join us Sunday as we examine the first miracle of Christ in the Gospel of Mark. Melanie's sermon is entitled "Unclean Spirits." Scriptures are Psalm 111 and Mark 1:21-28. Our lay worship leaders are CWRU students Jesse Cvelbar and Susan McKay.

Please consider helping out on Sunday mornings!
We need weekly ushers, greeters, and flower  sponsors, and monthly communion servers. To sign up,  Click here  and  enter your name where you wish to serve.

Bulletins are posted at CovenantWeb.org/read/listenwhere you can also read or listen to sermons. Printed sermons now include the pastoral prayer.

The choral anthems in this week's service reflect on the essence of love. The first is Edward Bairstow's evocative choral setting of I Corinthians 13, commonly known as the "love chapter." The King James Version of the text from 1611 uses the word "charity" as an expression of the Greek word "agape," the highest expression of love. The Beckwith Handbell choir presents a musical reflection on love entitled "Agape" by Howard Starks (b. 1929). We welcome flautist Jesse Cvelbar, a freshman majoring in nutrition at CWRU. Jesse is a native Clevelander and marching band participant.

The children will have Sunday School this week. The memory verse for January 28 is: "Those who wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint." - Isaiah 40:31

In a note received this week, Mildred writes, "Hello to all, I would like to thank you for the beautiful flowers. Every time I look at them I think of Covenant. Covenant will always be in my heart. Thank you again and I will see you from time to time. Love and Peace to all. ~Mildred Russin"

Be a Covenant Ambassador!
The Saturday Tutoring Program needs your help. As an Ambassador for the Covenant we would like you to arrive by 9:30 Saturday mornings and do the following as needed:
  • Help visitors.  People walk in seeking directions to other buildings in the area or wanting to visit the sanctuary. They want bus tickets or food, or seek the times the Cache is open.  There can be people arriving for wedding or funeral preparations.
  • Help parents of STP students get to the library and reception room.  Some parents sit in their cars during tutoring. Others prefer to sit upstairs where coffee, tea, and water are provided.  Ambassadors will escort them to the upstairs area.
  • Distribute literature to tutors, parents, and visitors. This is an opportunity to distribute fliers about Covenant events: Trunk-or-Treat, Thanksgiving dinner or simply information about Sunday service.
  • Recognize student and tutor achievements.  Interact with the tutors and kids, listen to what they've accomplished, and congratulate them.
If you have questions, please contact Mary Anne Bromelmeier.
