MMA Lends Its Support to Menthol Restrictions in Duluth
On Jan. 22, the MMA sent a letter to the Mayor and City Council of Duluth in support of efforts by the city to restrict sales of menthol and other flavored tobacco products to adult-only tobacco shops. Read more here.
Medicare Commission Recommends Nixing MIPS
Earlier this month, the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission voted to repeal and replace the Merit-based Incentive Payment System (MIPS), which is one of two paths for Medicare Part B physician payment enacted as part of the Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015 (MACRA). The vote calls on Congress to create a new voluntary, value-based payment program for Medicare Part B physicians and other providers. Read more here
MMA Recruiting Members for New Quality Measurement Work Group
As part of a grant from the COPIC Foundation, the MMA is recruiting physician members with knowledge and expertise in quality measurement and quality improvement to participate in a new MMA work group. The group will define key measures of health care and health, and develop and recommend a physician-consensus core measure set. The MMA will use this set to influence the state's mandated quality measures of physician practices, as well as the work of MN Community Measurement. The work group will meet between late February and June. If you are interested in participating, please contact Kristen Gloege at the MMA. 
Watch for Physician Survey from MMA
In the coming weeks, the MMA and its research partner, Data IQ, will send out a survey to gather feedback on the association and the practice of medicine in Minnesota. The feedback will help MMA leadership form strategy. It will go to a random sample of current and future members. If you receive it, please take 15 minutes and fill it out. Your input is invaluable. Registration Now Open for Day at the Capitol
Registration is now open for the MMA's 2018 Day at the Capitol, which takes place on March 14. It's a fantastic opportunity to get directly involved in the advocacy process at the Capitol and meet with state legislators.
