SENIOR SPOTLIGHT

Tori
Enamorado

Tori has already been admitted to three 4-year colleges. Way to go Tori!

  1. What is the most challenging part of your senior year?
The most difficult part for me has been organizing everything. I constantly have to balance time for school assignments, cross country/track, babysitting my sisters, working and my health. Being able to stay sane and up to date with everything is hard.

2. What colleges have you visited and what were your first impressions?
I visited Mount St. Mary's University over the summer, and the campus is extremely beautiful. It's a private, liberal arts, Catholic university, but you don't have to be Catholic to attend. The campus is extremely beautiful. They really care about their students. The sports facility was amazing. They have an outdoor church that was breathtaking.

I also had an overnight stay at Goucher College, I instantly fell in love with the school. It's the type of environment I want to be in for the next 4 years of my life. I met with the Track & Cross Country Coach, and they invited me to return for an overnight stay so I could experience a " college level" track practice for a day. I attended class and it was amazing. I learned a few things about chemical reactions in our bodies. I loved how the professors were engaging and involved with their students. The school also requires that students do a study abroad program, meaning you get to live and study in one of 50 countries. I'll definitely be going to Germany.

2. What activities do you want to be involved with during college?
I am most definitely going to do sports. I was born a runner so I'll continue that after high school. But I also want to get involved with school government, and other fun and interesting clubs.

3. Tori's advice for Juniors in CollegeTracks:
Juniors, don't believe that little rumor " junior year is the hardest." It's a complete lie. It's only hard if you make it hard on yourself. You're your worse enemy, don't allow yourself to lose focus and give up because that's when things well get hard for you. You're almost there. Don't give up. It's a wonderful feeling knowing you're almost done. Take advantage of CollegeTracks, if it wasn't for them I honestly would've been lost. And STUDY for your ACT or SAT.

STAFF SPOTLIGHT

 LINDSEY BARCLAY

Ms. Barclay is the CollegeTracks Program Director.

1. What's your career background?
My career has centered on student development.  Starting as an Orientation Peer Advisor at UMBC, I learned that I have a passion for helping others navigate the ofte
n complex college system.

Since then, I have spent the past decade working with college students at several universities and at CollegeTracks.  I am thrilled to help Watkins Mill juniors and seniors prepare for their college futures!

2. What are your hobbies?
I love reading, especially memoirs and books about social psychology.  My favorite author is Malcolm Gladwell.  When I'm not reading, I'm listening to a podcast, cooking, going to brunch with my friends, or traveling.  This year, I want to travel abroad...maybe to Thailand.

3. What were you like in high school?
I was a complete nerd in high school (I still am)!  I focused on my grades and planned for college.  I had a diverse friend group, who helped me understand how to get along with others.  I'm still friends with a few folks from my high school crew.  I was also obsessed with getting my nails done and usually had some wild color or design splashed on my fingers.
