Amy McCreath appointed new dean of Cathedral Church of St. Paul
The Rev. Amy Ebeling McCreath has been appointed by Bishop Alan M. Gates as the new dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul in Boston. The Cathedral Chapter approved the appointment at its Feb. 27 meeting.
McCreath will be the ninth dean of the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, succeeding former dean Jep Streit who retired last February after a 21-year tenure. McCreath is the first woman to serve as cathedral dean in the Diocese of Massachusetts. She begins in her new position on Sunday, April 22.
Bishops of Massachusetts Diocese Issue Joint Call: "From Lamentation to Action"
The Bishops of the Episcopal diocese of Massachusetts and Western Massachusetts have issued a joint call, "From Lamentation to Action," in which they urge solidarity in response to a call from the Bishops United Against Gun Violence coalition.
The Bishops encourage participation locally and nationally in the March 24 "March For Our Lives." The Cathedral will offer hospitality and a gathering place that day beginning at 10:00 a.m., in partnership with the Diocese and Episcopal City Mission. Those taking part in the sister march here in Boston should plan to meet at the Cathedral by 11:30 a.m. Additional youth-led organizing activities are being planned. Conscious Contact, Wednesdays 7-8 p.m.
This program, led by Deacon Cynthia Pape and Bill Comer and based on the 11th step of the Alcoholics Anonymous program (improving conscious contact with God as we understand him...through prayer and meditation), continues every Wednesday at 7:00 p.m. in the church. It's open to everyone.

Palm Sunday March 25th
Holy Week begins this Sunday with the The Sunday of the Passion: Palm Sunday. We will bless our palms out on the church porch, then process around the Brewer Fountain on Boston Common then into the church. The Passion Gospel will be declaimed by several members of the congregation. We'll conclude with Coffee Hour.
There are many services next week to commemorate the week of Christ's death and resurrection. We invite you to join us. See the schedule above for details.
Easter Memorials Being Gathered
Last Call for names for Easter Memorial flowers. Send in the names of those you want remembered by Monday, March 26. Checks in any amount would be very much appreciated to help with the cost.
Congregation Agape Meal Maundy Thursday
Next Thursday, March 29, we will have our annual Agape Meal with communion and foot washing on Maundy Thursday, in Sproat Hall at 6:00 p.m. Our entire congregation is invited to attend, and we are asked to bring salad makings as our share of the meal preparation (we expect about 75 people).
Easter Brunch
We'll be having a special Easter brunch on Easter morning, April 1, following the 10:00 service. Mains will be provided; please bring a side dish or dessert to share.
Highlights from the Sunday Morning Council Meeting March 18
- Welcoming the increasing numbers of people attending church on Sunday was discussed;
- Anne Moore was elected to the Council to fill a vacated seat;
- The Council discussed preparation and ways to welcome incoming new Dean Amy McCreath on April 22;
- The topic for Faith Matters during Easter Season, discussions on post-Resurrection appearances by Jesus Christ, were finalized;
- Preparations for the services during Holy Week were discussed and finalized.
