PROGRAM SPOTLIGHT - MUSIC!
Each week, we will be highlighting one of our programs or offering resources for parents to illustrate The Radcliffe Way!

Guided Listening in the Music Classroom
"Sittin' On the Dock of the Bay"... you know it, right? It's probably already playing in your mind as you read on! Now, see if you can describe what makes this song such a memorable hit even 50 years after it was first recorded. Can you identify which instruments play or in what order they are introduced? Is the form of the song easily identifiable? What's the tempo? What was happening in 1967 when Otis Redding dreamed up this gem?

These sorts of questions are what Radcliffe Creek students learn to answer as they are guided through the experience of listening . Students are making connections between why a song/piece speaks to them and what factors make certain music so appealing. They are learning that sometimes music truly tells a story (programmatic music) as heard in pieces such as Schehrezade and Pictures at an Exhibition. They have learned to dissect a work for element such as dynamics, tempo, form, instrumentation, and lyrics and isolate the aspects peak their interest and make them want to hear more.

Somehow, humans seem to have mastered the art of hearing without actually listening
. However, taking the time to examine music of all genres and eras by leaning in and listening with care elevates our lifelong relationship and love of music!

Music students illustrate the sequence of events during a song tale called "Old Joe Clark."
JAMISEN'S GRACE FOUNDATION
Little Creek would like to say a huge THANK YOU to the Jamisen's Grace Foundation for providing the school with four "Owlet" sock monitors to use in its Infant Room. Little Creek teachers met with Kelly Schultz, who started the foundation after tragically losing her daughter Jamisen. The teachers learned more about Jamisen's story and were trained on how to use the monitors. These monitors will be invaluable as Little Creek continues to provide the safest environment for its youngest children. The Jamisen's Grace Foundation is reliant on the support of donors to continue its incredibly valuable mission, click here to learn more.

As a reminder, Radcliffe cannot store lunches if your student is absent.
CLOTHES LABELING
Parents - please remember to label your child's clothing! We have many articles of clothing in the lost and found and left in the Locker Rooms without names on them. It's imperative that each piece be labeled so it can be returned to the owner. Thank you!
