News from American Greyhound recapping February and looking forward to March.

February by the Numbers
February saw 21  new arrivals and 1 dog hauled for another group.  We also had  4 adoptions.

This makes our year-to-date totals 33 brought into AG, 1 hauled for other groups, and 18 adoptions.
Winning Hearts #8

If you've been a part of American Greyhound for any length of time, be it as an adopter, a volunteer a foster or a supporter, you've heard about our "Winning Hearts" benefit auction.  It's our biggest single fund raising event of the year and in the first seven years of this event hundreds and hundreds of people have enjoyed a fun evening of support for American Greyhound and the dogs whose lives we touch.  And, that support has made a world of difference in how this organization operates and what we are able to do.

This year's auction will be held Saturday, April 28th at the Avalon Manor 3550 US Hwy 30, in Merrillville, Indiana and will begin at 5:00 PM with a very competitive silent auction, followed by dinner and our exciting live auction at 7:00 PM.  Again we'll have three open bars with beverages to suit just about anyone's tastes and champagne fountain filled with our traditional, tasty peach champagne.  Also, again this year we'll be utilizing on-line bidding during the silent auction, so you'll want to have you smart phone with you, fully charged (if you forget your phone, it's battery dies, or you don't have a smart phone, proctors from the auction company will be roaming around the silent auction tables to help you with the bidding process).  The really great thing about this event is that you won't have to wait around until after midnight to see if you've won the items that you bid on, the whole event will be complete well before 9:30 PM.

It really is a wonderful event and just about everyone I've ever spoken with about has told me what a wonderful time they had.  And, that's the rule-everyone leaves with a smile on their face!

But, we still need your help to make this year's event a success and here's a few ways you can help out:
  • It's not too late to become a member of the auction committee.  We can always use more help and many hands make the load lighter.  And, the feeling you'll have around 9:30 PM on April 28th, when we've just completed another successful auction cannot be described (I'll just say you may need surgery to remove the smile from your face).
  • We could still use some donations of items for auction.  We'll begin our annual gift card campaign later this week.  And, we have a wish list further down in this newsletter with ideas for items you may have access to that will really make the auction.
  • Once tickets go on sale (very soon), recruit your friends, your family, your neighbors, your co-workers, your enemies (you may make a friend), and just about anyone else you may know who enjoys a good time, to attend with you.
Seats will be going on sale on our website a soon and are $60 per person.  You'll have a choice of meals and access to the open bars and champagne fountain (and you'll have a really good time).  If you have any questions, have items you'd like to donate, or would like to become a part of the auction committee, contact Auction Chair Christina Robbins at (219)730-1356.

8th Annual Winning Hearts Wish List

The following items are some of the things we'd like to acquire for our auction on April 28th.  It certainly isn't all inclusive and if you've got ideas for other items, by all means, we'd love them too.  And, the things you donate need not be greyhound themed, they can be for other breeds of dogs, (or cats) and they don't even have to be pet themed at all.  If you aren't certain about something you'd like to donate, please contact Auction Chair Christina Robbins at (219)730-1356 or email her at [email protected], or contact Jeff Coggins at 9219)771-0892 or email at [email protected].
