Dear Steamboat Springs High School Parents and Friends,

As a piece of trivia, we added an old logo from SSHS above. The Tread of Pioneers is digitizing all SSHS yearbooks going back to 1912. Check out the photos here and if you can help them find yearbooks from 1913, 1915, 1916, 1919, 1920-1922, 1925-1945, 1949; I am sure they would appreciate your help.

We are sure you all can relate, this month both Steph and Robin are traveling, and because we could not locate a replacement facilitator, we decided to cancel this month's PIC meeting. We will resume for our April 4th meeting when our focus will be on drug use and teens.

In the meantime, we want to alert you to a few things.  One, vaping and 'JUULing' are becoming more and more popular and the tobacco industry has done an excellent job messaging that these forms of "smoking" are safer than cigarettes. Per recent research, this claim is completely false. Please watch these two videos,  'JUULing': The dangerous trend gaining steam among teens and another from a Colorado pediatrician, Pediatrician calls vaping a plague upon the teenage landscape, that explains how dangerous it is for teens to "JUUL" or Vape. They detail just how rapidly addicting this form of smoking is, and the harmful substances kids are ingesting through these devices. Please share with your teen. Two, to keep you informed on teen issues, we continue to post articles and videos on our Facebook page and webpage. Please let us know if there are other issues you want us to track.

Also this month are parent teacher meetings on March 14th and 15th, please be sure to sign up starting this Wednesday, March 7th at 8:00am through  Pick-a-Time .  As the PIC, we also provide meals for the teachers and staff, please help us make the teachers feel special by bringing in some food, the sign up can be found here.

Please join us for our next PIC meeting,  Wednesday, April 4, 12-1pm in the SSHS media center. We plan to have a speaker to talk about marijuana, "Juuling", vaping and other addictions facing our teens.

We are a drop-in group, no membership or commitment required. Just come and learn.

Thanks so much for all of your support.

Respectfully,
Stephanie Smith and Robin Schepper
SSHS co-chairs

    Principal's Report
Message from Principal Taulman:

Parent teacher conferences will be from 4:00 PM-8:00 PM Wednesday, March 14 and 8:00 AM - 8:00 PM Thursday, March 15.  As our enrollment continues to grow at the high school, this year we are at 95% capacity, we try create more opportunities for parents to meet with teachers during conferences.  To give more opportunity for parents / guardians that may not have been able to schedule a conference we are expanding our drop in times during conferences.  Drop in conference times will be from 4:00 PM - 6:00 PM and 6:30 PM - 8:00 PM on Thursday, March 15.  If you were not able to get a scheduled appointment, please take advantage of the drop in time to meet with your students teachers.

   Alive at 25
The next class will be March 13, 2018, from 4:00 to 8:30 at the High School.  The next class will take place in  early May, and there will be five or six classes during the summer, most of which will be in August before school starts.
