Last day to sign up for Walking Together Sunday, March 11th
I want to invite you to consider joining me on Saturday, March 17 for a day of learning and inspiration at an event called "Walking Together"  held at UW Eau Claire. This is an annual event in our synod and one of the best things our synod does.   Walking Together is a gathering of people from across the synod willing to share their best practices in a series of workshops on every kind of topic imaginable for the life of the church. ( I will be teaching a workshop on how to be a visual church -using powerpoint and video effectively).   The cost is only $20 which includes lunch and we can car pool together.  Please register on the sign-up sheet at the welcome desk and we will send in one registration for the congregation.   For more information click here
Join us for midweek lenten worship on Wednesdays

Plan on joining us the next 3 Wednesday evenings at 6:30 for a 45 minute midweek worship experience.  Our theme this year will be "The Many Faces of Jesus".  Remember we have a wonderful Wednesday dinner available every Wednesday night starting at 5:15pm

This year our midweek Lenten offerings will be designated to a special appeal from our NW Wisconsin Synod called Bold Generosity to enhance 6 key ministries beyond our walls.  Check out the details at Bold Generosity.  If you want to make a special gift in support of this appeal just designate that when you give it.

Celebrate Pastor Steve's and Diane's Ministry Among Us
All members and friends of Joy Lutheran Church are invited to a special spaghetti dinner next Wednesday, March 14th, 5:15-6:30 P.M. to celebrate Pastor Steve's and Diane's Ministry here at Joy. A free-will offering will be taken for dinner and it will be used to show our appreciation for their ministry here and to help them with expenses they are incurring to go to Malawi, our Companion Synod in Africa, in June so that Pastor Steve can be a teacher at the Pastor's Academy in Malawi. A silent auction will also be held from March 14-18 with the proceeds of that also going to help with expenses of the Meyer's trip to Malawi (primarily the expenses of plane flights which cost a total of $5000). If you have an item, or a service, which you would like to donate for the Silent Auction, please bring it to the church before Wednesday, March 14at 3:00 P.M. and place it on the table so designated in the Fellowship Hall. Please include your name with your item and the approximate value of your auction item or service. If you have a minimal bid for your item, please note that also. Please be generous with your free-will offering for dinner AND for your participation in the Silent Auction, either by donating items or by bidding on donated items. Let's help Pastor Steve and Diane make their way to Malawi to lend their talents in our Companion Synod and then come back to us to share their experience and help us learn more about our brothers and sisters in Christ in Malawi.

Take Stock in our Youth (literally)

7 of our youth will be traveling to Houston this summer to participate in the ELCA National Youth Gathering (a life transforming experience where they will join with 30,000 other youth from around the world to deepen their faith).

To help offset the cost of this trip Joy youth will be selling "stock" to raise funds for this trip. Those who purchase "stock" will be investing in the future of our youth. As part of your investment you will receive exclusive and personal status reports before, during, and after the National Youth Gathering from those you invest in along with access to our online blog. You will also be invited to a stockholders appreciation event

Healing Haiti

A note from Lisa Jenkover
- If not now....when?
I am excited and blessed to share that I will be going on a mission trip to Haiti this  April 2-9 with my daughter, Elise. The Lord has blessed Tracy, me and the Girls in many ways. And now we want to serve our brothers and sisters in Haiti.
What will we be doing?
We will be delivering clean water to villages, caring for children and elders, and teaching skills to children and adults Haiti.

How you can support me on this journey:
  • Please consider to sponsor us on this mission trip. We are expected to cover our flight, food, materials, and supply costs.  Each missionary is asked to raise $895 plus flight cost.  Any amount helps and is appreciated; $5, $10, $20, $50 or $100.   click here to donate online,(no fees applied) or feel free to mail a check to us.  - N6603 1313th St. Prescott, WI 54021

Help Send Pastor Steve and Diane to Malawi in June!

The Northwest Synod of Wisconsin recently announced that Pastor Steve has been chosen to go to Malawi, Africa in June to be a teacher at the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Malawi (ELCM) Pastors' Academy. Since 2009 the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Malawi and the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin have worked together to host a continuing education event for pastors in Malawi.

Two pastors from our Synod are chosen to go to Malawi to give both theological education and English language instruction to Pastors attending the ELCM Pastors' Academy. This year, Pastor Steve and Pastor John Sutherland, Assistant to the Bishop of the Northwest Synod of Wisconsin, will be the teaching pastors at the Pastors' Academy. It is an honor to be chosen for this opportunity and we are happy that Pastor Steve will be going to Malawi to work with Lutheran pastors in our Synod's Companion Synod.

Pastor Steve's wife, Diane, will accompany him to Malawi and will spend some time meeting with the women of the ELCM. Pastor Steve and Diane also hope to visit Joy's Companion Synod church, Mikolongwe, while they are in Malawi. Since this visit to Malawi will benefit our church also, the Church Council has authorized the raising of funds to help Pastor Steve and Diane with some of their trip expenses for which they are personally responsible.

Help send Pastor Steve and Diane to Malawi by supporting the following activities that are planned for March:

Wednesday, March 14th,  Spaghetti Appreciation Dinner, 5:15 - 6:30 P.M.
(Come for supper and leave a monetary donation in appreciation for Pastor Steve and Diane)

Wednesday-Sunday, March 14th-18th, Silent Auction Event
(Donate a silent auction item or your own service and bid on the donated items. Sign-up sheets for donated silent auction items are located in the Welcome Center. Sign up NOW!)
Easter Flowers

Please consider purchasing flowers for Easter! Envelopes are available at the welcome center in the narthex. Please place checks in the slot in the welcome center, Offering plate or return to the office. Thank You!

Thank You to our Joyful Quilters for another Season of Quilting!
The final day of quilting for the winter season will be Wednesday, March 14th. Since last fall, our Joyful Quilters have made about 70 quilts! Not only have they produced something much needed by many, they have had some wonderful days of fellowship as they've made quilts every Wednesday morning. The quilts, made this winter by our Joyful Quilters, will be blessed on Sunday, April 8th before being delivered to Lutheran World Relief for distribution to those in need around the world.
DEVOTIONS, PRAYERS and LENT

The 40/46 days of Lent are considered a time of preparation for Easter.  Some prepare through prayer, doing penance, repentance of sins, alms giving, and/or self-denial. During Lent, why not consider enhancing your own spiritual discipline by starting or continuing daily devotions, special prayers, attending Lenten services, etc.  Joy's library has numerous selections on prayer and devotions.  Check out the bulletin board and library shelves marked Devotions.  The children's library in the narthex also  has prayer and devotion books for young children.  It is never too late to start your spiritual journey.  Library Committee

Thrivent Financial Updates

Thrivent is looking for ways to give away millions of dollars with its non-profit status. Let's help them, which in turn supports Joy, the community and many of our outreach programs.

Action Team Projects: During this past year (2017) 60 Action Team projects were completed by members of Joy who are also Thrivent benefit and associate members. Thrivent provided $250 seed money for each of these events, thus giving us $15,000 that was used for service and outreach activities. Some of that money was used to offset budget expenditures and the rest used for programs that were not included in the 2017 budget. This surpassed our goal of 50 events and we have set our goal for 2018 for another 60 projects. As of March 1st we have already been approved for 20 projects for this year ($5,000) and are well on our way to meet our goal. Thank you to Thrivent Financial and everyone at Joy who has supported this program. I will update this message on the 1st Sunday of each month with new numbers. You can view all of last year's projects and 2018 projects that have been approved and anticipated for the entire year posted on the hallway bulletin board.

Choice Dollars: This is another Thrivent program available to eligible benefit members where they can direct Thrivent dollars to one or more non-profit organizations (including Joy Lutheran Church). These dollars become available throughout the year and you simply indicate where you would like the money to be sent. The process is easy and quick - either by phone or on-line. Remember, this is Thrivent's money (not yours) and they are giving it to a non-profit organization of your choice. During 2017 Joy members directed over $3,000 to Joy Lutheran Church of which over half was used to support the Capital Improvement Fund. This was a huge increase of Choice Dollars from previous years and is different from Action Team seed money in that the money can be used for whatever need we have at Joy. Thank you to Thrivent Financial and all Joy members who participated in this program. Let's make 2018 another great year with your continued involvement. Our goal for 2018 will again be $3,000. Please note: Choice dollars accumulated in any year must be used by March 31st of the following year or you will lose the dollars (e.g. money earned in 2017 must be used by 3/31/2018).

If you would like more information about Action Teams or Choice Dollars, check the weekly newsletter, Joy's web page, posted information in the church narthex & hallway bulletin board or contact Jim & Bobbie Flatz.

Thousands of dollars are available for our use to fund projects in our congregation and community...come find out how you can be part of it. Joy has prepared a 1 page informational and guidelines document that will explain the program and ease you through the application process. If you would like to view this, click on the link below.
