Spring Forward - March 11, 2018

Don't forget to turn your clocks ahead by 1 hour this weekend.  Daylight Savings time starts at 2 a.m. on March 11th.

This is also a good time to replace the batteries in all your smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors.

Carbon monoxide (CO) alarms became mandatory in all residential homes effective October 15, 2014.  You must install a CO alarm in your home if you have a fuel-burning appliance, a fireplace or an attached garage.  For added protection, install a CO alarm on every storey of your home.
Cawthra Rd. Sanitary Sewer  Project

The Cawthra Rd. Sanitary Sewer project has commenced and is expected to be substantially complete by August 2018.

The construction work is the first phase of a multi-phased project that will have wastewater flow diverted away from areas that are prone to surcharging to reduce basement flooding. The project also includes watermain replacement to upgrade the current water services system. The sanitary sewer will be constructed in a tunnel along Cawthra Road from Dundas Street East to Bloor Street. The majority of the watermain replacement will be constructed using open-cut construction along Cawthra Road from Dundas Street East to just north of Silver Creek Blvd as shown in the attached map.

Food Trucks: Coming to a Park Near You!

Mississauga's Parks and Forestry Division is recommending a one-year pilot project which would see food trucks serving hungry residents in nine parks throughout the city. The pilot would begin May 1, 2018 and continue through April 30, 2019. Food trucks will be permitted onsite during regular park hours, 7 a.m. to 11 p.m.

Currently, the City restricts food trucks to special events within parks throughout Mississauga and four stationary park vendors at Mississauga Celebration Square. In addition, eight hot dog and 14 ice cream vendors are presently permitted in city parks.
New regulations for Door-to-Door Sales

There are new regulations that will restrict door-to-door sales for certain goods and services at your homes. This includes furnaces, air conditioners (including cleaners and purifiers), water heaters, water treatment devices (purifiers, filters and softeners), duct cleaning services and bundles of goods and services such as HVAC.

Innovative Dog Waste Containers in Mississauga Parks

The City of Mississauga is launching a one-year pilot program that will convert dog waste into renewable energy and fertilizer. Fifteen in-ground dog waste containers will be installed across eight City parks including the Animal Services facility this spring. These fully in-ground concrete containers can hold dog waste for up to six weeks. The waste will then be emptied by a vacuum truck and taken to an organic waste plant where it will be safely converted into energy and fertilizer.
