Russell's Ritings....

Many years ago Bishop Ken Goodson was bishop of Alabama. Bishop Goodson was a great preacher and a master story teller. He shared once that he had made a passing remark about hypocrites which had been broadcast over the radio. While walking downtown the next week he was confronted by someone who said he had heard the then Pastor Goodson on the radio, and did he know he had hypocrites in his church. Feigning surprise, Goodson responded that he thought all the hypocrites were over at the Baptist Church!

"No," the man said, "there are hypocrites in your church and I can name them." At this point he called the names of at least a dozen members, all of which were Goodson's friends. So Goodson replied that he also had a list, and he listed another dozen or so church members.

His antagonist asked, "Well, what are you going to do about them?" Goodson replied, "I'm going to throw them out of the church." The man looked Goodson in the eye and said he didn't think Goodson was brave enough to throw them out of the church. "Oh, yes, I'm going to throw them out. I even have a date set for when I'm going to do it." His curiosity piqued, the man asked when that would be?

Goodson told the man on the street that he was going to throw all the hypocrites out on the same day the hospital stopped admitting sick people!

We all need Christ and His Church! And none of us measure up the standards He has set for us. But thank God, there is Grace! And because of His Amazing Grace, even we can find our place in His Family, the church.

I hope to see you Sunday. The sermon is "A Secret Meeting" (JN 3:4).

''and the folks are friendly"

Russell

CONGRATULATIONS TO "QUIET DISCIPLES"
PEM AND JOANN DUNN

JoAnn and Pem Dunn were honored as "Quiet Disciples" at The Mile High District gathering March 3. They exemplify true discipleship with energy and joy. Their talents have been and continue to be unique with selfless contributions to our church. Both of them are artists: JoAnn with her sewing has made liturgical paraments, plaques for baby baptisms, and costumes for the Children's Christmas Pageant; Pem with his paintings, supplements funds and decor for the church, along with making designs for our stained glass windows and creating the Wise Men used for Christmas. Both are active on many church teams such as Missions, Church & Society, Lay Care, SPRC and reaching out to the homeless through "Family Promise". They have participated in two mission tripS to Tanzania. JoAnn shares her musical talents with the church choir and directs the children's choir for special occasions. They are a gift to our church and are truly Quiet Disciples.

SAFEWAY GROCERY CARDS

Safeway strongly suggests/encourages you to spend down the older tomato reloadable cards and come into the church to pick up a new more secure card from the church from Charlene Hahn, Barb Grindle or Carol Wood in the office. The new reloadable cards have higher security measures to prevent fraud. Everything is fine with the King Soopers cards.

Thank you for shopping with these cards and helping the church in this way.

ADULT EDUCATION

Sunday, March 11 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 1): THE GOOD SAMARITAN
(LUKE 10: 25-37)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
A lawyer comes to Jesus and asks a question about eternal life. Jesus asks about Scripture, and the lawyer quotes the law. Jesus commends him, but this was too simple for the lawyer. J esus then tells this marvelous story.

Sunday, March 18 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 2): THE NARROW DOOR
(LUKE 13: 22-30)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
We are called to live life through a narrow door. Narrow door living calls us to be moral people in an immoral society. What does this mean, what does "holiness" mean, and what does it mean to be saved?

Sunday, March 25 from 9:30 - 10:20 am
SERIES ON THE PARABLES (NO. 3):  A CHRISTIAN DUTY
(LUKE 17: 5-10)
Facilitator: The Rev. Russell Fletcher
In a time when rights are demanded and duties are forgotten, this story speaks to us. Our duty is to serve God and claim no merit. Our best deserves no credit or praise. We are simply doing our duty.
