UPCOMING TRAININGS

Trainer: Jamiah Tappin, Boston Alliance for Community Health
Wednesday, February 7*
9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Worcester, MA

Audience:  Coalition leaders, individuals, and partners who want to work effectively and collaboratively towards community health goals

Description:  This training will equip participants with an organizing framework and basic tools needed to mobilize their community. Participants will get an opportunity to practice community power mapping and leadership development skills in order to engage stakeholders and hard to reach residents. Participants will leave with the ability to organize community-driven, goal-oriented campaigns by utilizing clear strategies and tactics shared in this training.

Participants completing this training will be able to:
  1. Understand organizing theories, principles and best practices for community organizing
  2. Define clear goals, strategies and target audience for successful mobilization
  3. Explore foundation level organizing skills and tools that reach all levels of community
This training address the following MA DPH Coalition Quality Criteria:
  1. Statement of purpose and shared activities
  2. Defined leadership
  3. Consistency with MA DPH's goals and priorities

Wednesday, February 21

Audience:  Coalition leaders, individuals, and partners who want to work engage youth meaningfully in their work

Description:  Building off the webinar "Engaging Youth in Your Work," this training will explore strategies for actively engaging and retaining youth members in your coalition work. We will go through the different levels in which youth are involved in the work, how to find youth-friendly spaces, and most importantly, how to build up their confidence so that they know their voice matters in community health work. Topics will include: creating strong youth-adult partnerships, communication and relationship building with youth. Participants will be introduced to tools to better involve young people in community health leadership roles.

Participants completing this training will be able to:
  1. Identify levels of youth participation
  2. Provide examples of youth participation in relation to their work
  3. Identify strategies to include more youth voice and choice in their work
     
This training address the following MA DPH Coalition Quality Criteria:
  1.  Shared vision including a focus on reducing health disparities and promoting health equity
  2. Consistency with MA DPH's goals and priorities
  3. Participation from key stakeholders (individuals and organizations that have a vested stake or interest in a program or policy initiative, e.g. it will impact them directly)
  4. Membership that is reflective of the community

Working on Wellness is proud to announce the launch of their new website! Any business or organization can now learn how to launch and/or sustain a worksite wellness initiative through a publicly-available self-paced curriculum. The site provides access to evidence-based resources to support comprehensive worksite wellness initiatives. Programs and policies can be customized to the needs of a worksite, and may include regular physical activity, healthy eating, tobacco cessation and stress management. Most importantly, worksite wellness initiatives help both employers and their staff.
