Plans Underway for a New Building at  5208 Highway N

Unique Heating and Cooling plans to relocate their office space into a new building at  5208 Highway N .  This new building will offer additional office or retail space and will be similar to the building pictured here. This is adjacent to St. Joseph Church and will be a beautiful feature as you enter the old town historic Cottleville area at the intersection of Highway N and Motherhead Road. Egg Hunt in Legacy Park
 

This year, Susan Brewer Service First Real Estate, along with other area realtors will be hosting and conducting an Egg Hunt in City of Cottleville at Legacy Park. The hunt will be on Saturday,  March 24th  beginning with bunny photos at the Log Cabin at  9:45am.  They have 10,000+ eggs, police cars, fire trucks, Cinderella, Spiderman and the Easter Bunny will all be there! 

Contractor Selected for Fifth Street Improvements 
 
During a bid process, a contractor has been selected for the construction improvements to Fifth Street in historic old town Cottleville. Design and right of way is now complete. These improvements include an improved storm water system, curbs, sidewalks, parking, upgraded street signage and street lighting that would resemble our recent improvements on Main Street or along Highway N. Funding opportunities are currently underway and upon completion construction could begin this summer. For many years, the Cottleville Community Improvement District has discussed much needed improvements for Fifth Street in Cottleville's historic district. The intersection at Highway N and Fifth Street is congested and too often, accidents occur at this location.

New Homes Marketed Toward Seniors Coming to Cottleville

The 10 acres at  1280 Motherhead Road  has been sold and plans are underway for a new 35   lot senior single family detached housing development marketed towards ages 55 and older.  EPCON Homes plans to construct 35   homes which will feature high end kitchens, 2 and 3 bedrooms, individual court yards and floor plans geared toward senior living such as no steps, wider hallways, bathroom handrails etc. Stay tuned for more information!
 
Chief Steve James 
Sworn  into Office
 
Chief Steve James was officially sworn in as the Cottleville Chief of Police on February 24, 2018.  He comes to the City of Cottleville from the Bridgeton Police Department where he served as Captain. Chief James is a graduate of Truman State University and a graduate of the FBI National Academy. He resides nearby in St. Peters with his wife Catherine and they have two adult sons.  Chief James and his wife enjoy life at the lake, boating, golfing and spending time with their grandchildren. 

Chestnut Street Improvements
 
Bids were received recently for construction improvements to Chestnut Street and a southern portion of Main Street in old town historic Cottleville. These improvements include curbs, sidewalks, parking, upgraded street signs, and street lighting that would look like our recent improvements currently on Main Street in front of Blooming Daisy Market Place on down behind VB Chocolate Bar.   Funding opportunities are currently being reviewed and upon completion, construction could begin this summer.

RESOLUTION NO. 18-04

A RESOLUTION CALLING UPON THE UNITED STATES DEPARTMENT OF THE INTERIOR TO OFFICIALLY CHANGE THE DOMESTIC GEOGRAPHIC NAME OF THE CREEK IN ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MISSOURI CURRENTLY DESIGNATED AS "TRIBUTARY B" TO "ARCHER ALEXANDER CREEK"

WHEREAS, the story of Archer Alexander is very important in the history of St. Charles County, and has come to the attention of the St. Charles County Executive and the St. Charles County Council; and
WHEREAS, Archer Alexander was a slave from Virginia who was brought to St. Charles County in 1830, and eventually married another slave named Louisa; and
WHEREAS, in 1863, during the Civil War, Alexander learned that men had sabotaged a railroad bridge by sawing its timbers, and he informed a Union man who conveyed the message to Union troops who fixed the bridge before any train crossed; and
WHEREAS, Alexander later also informed Union officials that arms were hidden in an ice-house on the Campbell farm near the Pitman Farm; and
WHEREAS, rebel sympathizers came to suspect Alexander and he feared so for his safety that he ran away to St. Louis, where he was given refuge by William Eliot, a prominent unionist and later founder of Washington University; and
WHEREAS, slave catchers apprehended Alexander, but federal officials, at the request of Eliot, recovered him and returned him to freedom; and
WHEREAS, Provost Marshal Franklin Dick gave Archer Alexander an order of protection, allowing him to remain in the service of William Eliot; and
WHEREAS, in December 1864, the provost marshal began recruiting African American troops in St. Charles County, and Tom Alexander, the son of Archer Alexander, was among the first; and
WHEREAS, when Tom Alexander was killed in action, Archer expressed pride that his son had served, stating "I couldn't do it myself, but I thank the Lord my boy did it"; and
WHEREAS, in 1869 pictures of Archer Alexander were used by sculptor Thomas Ball as part of work on a monument to Abraham Lincoln to be erected in Washington, D.C., and it was said that  "his likeness, both face and figure, is as correct as that of Mr. Lincoln himself"; and
WHEREAS, that statute, using Archer Alexander's likeness, became the Emancipation Memorial statue and has stood in Washington D.C.'s Lincoln Park since 1876; and
WHEREAS, a creek currently designated as "Tributary B," which flows into the Dardenne Creek, is located in St. Charles County where the Campbell farm used to be located; and
WHEREAS, the rich history of the story of Archer Alexander in St. Charles County warrants an official naming of "Tributary B" as "Archer Alexander Creek".

This resolution passed and approved this 21st day of February 2018.

C ottleville to be Future Home of the Brown Family Dentistry!
Have you noticed construction on the lot at Highway N and Lime Street?  This will be the future home of the Brown Family Dentistry!
The new building will feature his dentist office and provide other retail and office spaces. During early demolition work, a log structure was found after removing several layers. There was no previous record in a past architectural survey of a log home being within the structure at Highway N and Lime Street. However, the logs that were discovered during early demolition work have been carefully removed by the property owner's contractor as he plans to feature them in his new building. Historically, the City has required any log structures to be saved, restored or displayed in some fashion before demo permits are issued. For example, the logs from the home that once stood at 5291 Fifth Street are currently in the City's possession and some of those logs are now featured in the City Hall lobby and featured in the corn crib style log structure that was reconstructed at Blooming Daisy Marketplace located at 5541 Chestnut. The City takes pride in its historical value and has also required the property owner of the log home located at 5366 Main Street to number/tag and remove the logs carefully and for those logs to be in the City's possession for possible reconstruction within the City limits at a later date. In the past, the City has chosen to feature the Seargent log cabin that once stood at Eagle Hill Lane off Highway N as the Dardenne Greenway Trailhead in Legacy Park. This log cabin is open every day in Legacy Park for you to visit for preservation and educational purposes.
