Join State Auditor Suzanne Bump at our Members-Only Policymaker Roundtable
MNN will welcome
State Auditor Suzanne Bump to our members-only
Policymaker Roundtable on Thursday, February 8 at 12:00 pm at the NonProfit Center in Boston.
The Office of the State Auditor conducts audits, investigations, and studies to promote accountability and transparency, improve performance, and make government work better. Auditor Bump has championed the use of innovative technologies to improve government performance and recruited and trained a talented staff to bolster these efforts. Auditor Bump is the 25th Auditor of the Commonwealth, and the first woman to serve in this role in the state's history. She previously served as Secretary of Labor and Workforce Development under Governor Deval Patrick and represented the Town of Braintree as a legislator in the Massachusetts House of Representatives for eight years. She has served as a member of the boards of directors of numerous nonprofit organizations, including the South Shore Chamber of Commerce and St. Francis House.
Attendees will have the chance to speak with Auditor Bump directly and ask her any questions they may have.

MNN Testifies Before State Committee on Impact of Tax Reform on Nonprofits
Yesterday, MNN CEO Jim Klocke testified in front of the Joint Committee on Revenue at an invitation-only informational hearing on the recently passed federal tax reform law, the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act. In the testimony, Klocke discussed the pieces of the federal tax bill which will be harmful to the Massachusetts nonprofit sector, highlighting that the federal tax bill will make it harder for all nonprofits to operate - small, medium, and large alike.
"The federal tax bill will reduce charitable giving, impose new taxes on the sector, and will negatively impact the Commonwealth's nonprofit community and the people and causes they serve," said Klocke.
Klocke's testimony also outlined the future opportunities for state government and the nonprofit sector to work together to mitigate the impact of the federal tax bill on "communities and the people that rely on the programs and services provided by our government and nonprofit sectors."

Stephanie Mercandetti (1976-2018)
MNN was deeply saddened to learn of the recent passing of a former staff member and champion of the nonprofit sector,
Stephanie Mercandetti
.
Stephanie joined MNN's small team less than a year after the organization launched and worked closely with its first CEO, David Magnani. Stephanie was instrumental in organizing MNN's first Nonprofit Lobby Day, now known as Nonprofit Awareness Day, where the sector joins together to make its voice heard on Beacon Hill. Stephanie had an impactful career in public service, serving as the Director of Community and Economic Development of Medway, MA, and as an elected member of the Planning Board of the Town of Framingham.
Susan Nicholl, Executive Director of the MetroWest Visitors Bureau and longtime MNN board member, remembers this about Stephanie:
"
Everyone gravitated towards her authentic and optimistic attitude. The office was filled with lots of laughs because her attitude never wavered - even after she pulled an all-nighter to organize MNN's first Nonprofit Lobby Day.
