An update from your Vestry
Following elections for new Vestry members at our annual meeting, the Vestry met on Saturday morning, March 3rd at the Parish House for a short retreat led by David and Krista to commence our efforts for this year. After a wistful remembrance of the stellar leadership provided by Patty Smith and Birdie Lowery as our most recent wardens (be sure to thank them for their service if you didn't get a chance at the annual meeting!), we welcomed new Vestry members Cliff Wieger (our new Junior Warden) and Katherine Brennan. A review of our 2017 goals and accomplishments (which you can find in our annual Parish report at the link below, or on the About/Leadership page of the Chapel website) led to a flood of ideas on areas for focus in 2018, about which there will be more later. Central to all of our ideas was a desire for expanded communication about the many ministries and activities under way at Chapel of Our Saviour; these Notes are in respose to that desire. Look for future updates in Chapel's weekly sendings.   -The Vestry

A Lenten Exploration of Race and Faith in America
Wednesdays, Feb 21 - March 21 6-8 pm - Meets at the Barrel Room at Ivywild School
1604 S Cascade Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80905

The Reverend Martin Luther King Jr. once famously observed,
"it is appalling that the most segregated hour of Christian America
is eleven o'clock on Sunday morning."

Join David and Krista during Lent for a five-week exploration of the intersection of race and faith in America. We will read together James Cone's book, "The Cross and The Lynching Tree" which will guide our inquiry into the complex and challenging history of race in America and how it impacts our churches and our faith.

Volunteer to Serve during our Sunday morning worship

There are many ways to serve in our weekly liturgies here at Chapel of Our Saviour.
The word "Liturgy" is derived from a Greek word that translates, "the work of the people."

During Lent, we will offer several trainings for those who would like to serve on Sundays.
If you feel called to ministry as an usher, lector (reader),  Lay Eucharistic Minister, acolyte or intercessor (leader of the prayers of the people),
please email Krista.  [email protected] .

Thursday Morning Eucharist -Saint Mary Chapel @ 7 am
Join us at every Thursday for Eucharist   followed by breakfast and lively conversation.

Human Trafficking Awareness
The 2017 Annual Report of the Colorado Human Trafficking Council (CHTC) is now available online. The comprehensive report is the product of cooperation between Council members, Division of Criminal Justice staff and members of the wider anti-trafficking movement committed to improving lives of victims and survivors, as well as improving Colorado's response to human trafficking. With both labor and sex trafficking investigative activities remaining strong, the report is a useful guide to anyone interested in joining the fight against human trafficking. Awareness is the first step toward change!

Morning With Our Master
Saturday, March 17, 2018 9 am-Noon -- St. Mary Chapel
"He is not here; he has risen!"  It is said that Mary Magdalene brought a basket of white boiled eggs with her on Easter morning to the tomb of Jesus-perhaps as a meal for herself and the others as they waited for someone to roll the stone away. When she arrived at the site of the Resurrection, finding the stone already rolled away, she also found that the eggs in her basket had turned into bright shades of color. As we gather together approximately midway through Lent, we will look at various "traditions & customs" that have developed as we spend these weeks meditating on the greatest gift ever given. Join us for a morning of Lenten "fun" and meditation, won't you? All are welcome - consider bringing a friend. Light refreshments will be provided. Please feel free to add your contribution if you are so moved.

Kids' Care Kits
Thank you to the 10  volun teers who assembled Kid's Care Kits. A special well done to our youth who completed all 120 kits in less than 30 minutes! The kits are given to children accompanying their parents at Westside CARES.  Typically, the kids are stressed because their parents are stressed.  The kits help to ease that stress for a bit.

Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) Hosting
We need your help! Volunteers are still needed to set up, make breakfast on Sat, Mar 17, provide lunch supplies, be evening hosts on Mar 16, do laundry, and tear down in support of IHN hosting. From March 11-17 2018, we will provide a home to families enrolled in IHN. The homeless families agree to follow strict guidelines of IHN as they work aggressively to regain a solid foothold on their situation and circumstances. As hosts, we provide meals, companionship, and a warm place to stay. Please contact Betsy VanderWerf to volunteer or sign up on the poster in the Parish House.

B Street Food Pantry
The B Street Food Pantry, a satellite operation of Westside CARES provides a four-day food supply up to six times per year to households demonstrating a genuine need.   Every Sunday, Chapel collects canned goods & staples for the pantry in the little Red Wagon. This month, we are collecting:

Tejon Street during the first two weeks of the month.  Chapel volunteers work with other Episcopal churches in the area to operate a retail store selling gently used items.  Profits are distributed to churches based upon volunteer hours worked.  The profits are then dispersed to numerous county, state, and global non-profit agencies.  To volunteer, please contact  [email protected] .  Also, donations and shoppers are greatly appreciated!

Lenten Random Acts of Kindness
Lent calls us to show greater compassion for others. Random acts of kindness are a way to express our compassion every day during Lent. A calendar that gives us an easy way to show kindness daily, is enclosed in the bulletin and available on the Chapel website at https://www.chapelofoursaviour.com/serving-in-our-community/ day. Please use it to help to deepen your relationship with God, while making our world a better place.
