FEATURED EVENT: Century Students Donate Rocket to Ladd Acres Wellness Room
Having a variety of areas where students can engage in quiet activities or reflect and self-regulate is one of the hallmarks of a wellness room. Now, thanks to some students and staff from the Manufacturing Technology class at Century High School, students at Ladd Acres Elementary School have a particularly cool place to do just that. Ladd's space-themed wellness room is called "Astro Academy," so what better retreat than a rocket ship? The rocket is actually a robust structure that students can enter through a flap in the front and adults can enter by opening the front panel. LED lights ring the top edge of the structure, and mounted in the ceiling is a color-changing light and sound system. Wellness Instructor Jennifer Ranger was extremely appreciative of the donation, and reactions from her students were pretty adorable.

Erin's Law Letters Coming with Report Cards
UPCOMING
EVENTS

Erin's Law ( OR Senate Bill 856) mandates that students in pre-kindergarten through high school receive age-appropriate curriculum relating to sexual abuse prevention four times per year. The purpose of this instruction is to help students recognize and respond to unsafe situations, and to provide them with the tools needed for personal safety. A letter about Erin's Law is being sent home with students' report cards this week. Please see our website or talk to your school counselor for additional information.

Reminder: HSF Innovative Education Grant Abstracts Due 2/6
The Hillsboro Schools Foundation is currently accepting abstracts for its 2018-19 Innovative Education Grants. This year, HSF staff put together a clever video to describe what they're looking for and how to apply for the grants, and developed an online form for the submission of abstracts, which should greatly streamline the application process. The deadline for submitting abstracts is Tuesday, Feb. 6; click here for the scoring rubric.
