Rockwell Automation: A partner in mentoring and career exploration
|
|
This holiday season, College Now would like to recognize one of our emerging partners,
Rockwell Automation
. We work with over 1,100 mentors from more than 450 different area employers, but Rockwell stands out from the crowd. Rockwell got involved with College Now’s Mentoring Program in 2016. Since then, 15 Rockwell employees have mentored with the program, and the company is attending College Now’s annual career fair in January to meet and recruit our students.
Sean Thomas, Training and Performance Specialist at Rockwell and President of Rockwell’s internal employee resource group ADVANCE, has been mentoring since
2016. “Working with College Now as a mentor has been a great way for me to give back and provide something I wish I had as a student. Rockwell’s partnership with College Now gives us the chance to help local students and give back to our communities.”
Sean has also lead the way in expanding Rockwell’s outreach to area high schools. In conjunction with College Now’s Senior Director of Advising Programs and Services, Kate Schwab, Sean and ADVANCE will be supporting College Now's GEAR UP (GUP) and Upward Bound (UB) programs by participating in career panel discussions at the respective schools this coming year. In addition, Sean and ADVANCE are exploring ways in which GUP and UB students can participate in meaningful hands-on experiences at Rockwell's campus.
Many thanks to Rockwell Automation, and to all our partner organizations! If your organization would like to partner more closely with College Now’s Mentoring Program or our high school services, please contact Madeline Rife at

Give the gift of college and career access this holiday season
|
|
If College Now is on your list this gift-giving season, here are a couple of ways you can help us support Northeast Ohio students:
1)
Consider making a gift
. A gift to College Now is an investment in individuals and in our community. Thanks to our supporters, we work with 29,000 students annually in over 185 locations across Northeast Ohio.
2)
Become a mentor to one of College Now's scholarship recipients
. Our innovative, web-based Mentoring Program has had dramatic results, increasing the college completion rate among College Now scholarship recipients from 60% to nearly 80% in six years. With a new class of freshman scholarship recipients each year, we're always recruiting!

|
impact! is an 8-week, tri-annual program that focuses on ACT and SAT preparation and college and career readiness. This program, funded by the Ohio Department of Education’s
21st Century Community Learning Centers grant
, and is administered by College Now Greater Cleveland in partnership with the

,

,

,
Warrensville Heights City School District
, and

.
The goal of impact! is to help students meet state and local standards in core academic subject areas, specifically mathematics and reading. The impact! team works toward enhancing ACT, SAT, or PSAT test-taking strategies, providing enrichment activities that complement students’ regular academic programming and giving students the necessary tools to prepare for postsecondary education. An 8-week session at impact! includes two ACT/SAT/PSAT practice exams, two family sessions, a parent orientation before session begins, and a college and career project.
Upon completion of the program, students are eligible for a stipend if they attended 30 days of the session and raised their test score by two points. Additionally, students that complete the program are eligible to participate in college tours.
