Issue 9 | January 30, 2018
Dear Friends,

What a way to end the week! Our campaign office officially opened last Friday, with a great showing from #Teamalsobrooks. Almost 300 supporters attended the event, leaving with yard signs to spread the word of our campaign to their neighbors. Volunteers in green were on every floor of the building. Thank you for all you continue to do!

I want to thank the faith community and the labor community that came out to mark this milestone with me. I appreciate your support and will continue to work hand-in-hand with you to understand and meet the needs of our community.

It also warmed my heart to have my longtime friends -- my high school lunch crew -- in attendance, along with my dynamic sisters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. It always gives me a boost to see you in the crowd, and by my side.

Thank you to the people who helped us get the office ready for business by donating furniture, supplies and your time. With your help, we're ready to work for the Prince George's community. With 145 more days to go, we have a lot to do.

To everyone who took time on a Friday evening, at the end of your hard working week, to join me and offer your support and encouragement, thank you from the bottom of my heart.

For those who have not yet visited, please don't hesitate to stop by the office to grab a bumper sticker or a yard sign. Feel free to call the office or check the website for opportunities to volunteer, including working the polls with us on June 26th. The office is open to you. It is not my house. This is OUR house Prince Georgians!  I look forward to meeting more of you there, and around the County as I continue to visit churches, senior centers, businesses and community associations to learn how I can be of service.

Let's continue to do the work to fulfill the promises of Prince George's County.

Sincerely yours,

Angela

Community Corner

The County government budget season is underway for fiscal year 2019, is a busy time when agencies submit their funding requests. Similar to planning personal and household budgets, the process starts by understanding the available income and necessary expenses, and planning activities accordingly. However, emergencies and the unexpected do arise!

There are a multitude of factors that influence the County’s budget, such as commercial and residential taxes, public safety, education, health and human services, infrastructure and the environment as well as legislation. Even with contingency plans in place, a deficit can cause a domino effect, hindering our ability to achieve our goals.

While budgeting is top of mind, the campaign would like to seek your input on the areas of funding that you would like to be considered for future County budgets. No suggestion, cause or organization is too small or far-fetched. We all deserve the best quality of life that Prince George’s has to offer, and that includes a rich variety and diversity of offerings and services. I look forward to hearing from you about the priorities for you and your family.
