A Message from the Principal

Lovejoy HS News 03 19 18

P arents and Guardians,

I hope you and your student had a great Spring Break. Whether you had the chance to leave town on vacation or simply hung around for the week, I hope you were able to spend some quality time with your student.

With the end of Spring Break comes the reality that we are entering the last grading period of the school year. The next 11 weeks will be full of concerts, performances, banquets, AP Exams, Final Exams and all the events that the end of a school year brings. Please continue partnering with teachers, counselors, and principals as we want your child to finish strong in this last quarter.

Below you will find more information about events going on at LHS. Please take a few minutes to review them.

Sincerely,

Chris Mayfield
Principal
Lovejoy High School

Foundation News

Online Auction Results
The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools would like to thank everyone who participated in the 2018 Online Auction. The auction raised over $30,000. Thanks to your support, these funds will be used towards the mission of providing innovative classroom grants to benefit the students of Lovejoy ISD.

If you did not get a chance to purchase a ticket to the K-4 Spring Fling Beach Bash Socials, it is not too late. There will be a sign-up sheet at each campus office for you to purchase a ticket for your student to attend their grade-level party.

The success of this auction would not have been possible without the staff of Lovejoy. The campuses and teachers so graciously donated over 200 experiences for your students and your family.

Denim and Diamonds - Lone Starry Night - April 7th
Through your generosity and support, the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools awarded grants totaling $451,100 to teachers for use in their classrooms this year. The Foundation is funded primarily from Annual Appeal and the Denim and Diamonds (D&D) Gala and Auction. The Foundation's goal this year is to cover D&D costs with sponsorships prior to the night of the event so all monies spent at the event go directly to fund classroom grants.

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host its 12th annual Denim and Diamonds Gala and Auction on Saturday, April 7, 2018, at the Marriott at Legacy Town Center in Plano. This year's theme is a Lone Starry Night. Foundation for Lovejoy Schools Chair, Carrie McClure and Co-Chair, Aimee Peay welcome you to a night featuring dinner, entertainment and live auctions.

The Foundation for Lovejoy Schools will host a raffle for three great prizes, which includes:
  • $2500 VISA gift card - donated by Owens Realtors
  • EZ Go Golf cart - Completely Remodeled and Refurbished Model 2014 TXT-PDS with 2014 upbody with flip seating, new batteries, tires and LED head/tail lights. New factory-painted, flame-red body. EC Custom Carts - value $5,000
  • Arcade Game Table - Designed like original arcade table from the 80s. Table can be customized, featuring officially licensed graphics of favorite College, Pro Team, etc. - value $4,400
Raffle tickets are $100. Only 500 tickets will be sold. A drawing will be held for each item, giving each ticket a chance to win one of these prizes. The winners will be drawn at the Denim and Diamonds Gala. You do not need to be present to win. Click here for additional information. You may purchase tickets from any Foundation director, via the Foundation's website, or at the LISD administration building. See the Foundation website for a list of directors or click here to purchase tickets online.

Tickets for the Gala are on sale now for $150 each. This year, we will seat guests at tables of 12. For additional information, visit FoundationForLovejoySchools.org or contact Cindy Booker at [email protected] or at 469.742.8043. Click here to purchase tickets to the gala.

LHS Fishing
Leopard Fishing recently clinched Team of the Year title as the regular season wrapped up on Ray Roberts! That means Lovejoy is able to take all of its teams to the Regional Championship next month. The team was once again led by Freshman Phenoms, John Armstrong & Josh Bittlestone who clinched Angler(s) Of The Year! A feat previously not accomplished by an all-freshman duo.

The incredible end was John's giant 8.99 pound largemouth that took big bass for the event!

LHS Girls' Powerlifting
Ally Carraway was the first ever girl from Lovejoy to compete in the Girls' Powerlifting State Meet this past Friday.  She competed well, and even though she was unable to finish the deadlift, we are proud of her accomplishments this year, and we are excited about her potential for next year!

LHS Track & Field
The Leopards Track and Field team has been BUSY. Before Spring Break, the sprinters, field event athletes, and a small group of our distance athletes competed at the Argyle Invitational, and we also hosted the Lovejoy Spring Distance Festival.

Argyle Invitational
Top Varsity athletes were Beau Iovinelli (3rd place - 200m), Will Heath (4th place - 400m & 200m), Tyler Van Wagoner (1st place - 110m Hurdles, 3rd place - 300m Hurdles, & 3rd place High Jump), James Rainey (1st place - Shot Put), Nathaniel Finch (4th place - Shot Put & Discus), Jack Victor (2nd place - High Jump & 3rd Place Pole Vault), Cade Smith (4th place - 110m Hurdles, 5th place - High Jump), Michael DesJardins (1st place - Pole Vault raising his school record to 14'9"), Colin Engbrock (6th place - Pole Vault).

Top JV athletes were Austin King (5th place - 100m), Chief Collins (6th place - 200m), Kyle Easly (6th place - 3200m), William Pekinpaugh (6th place - 110m Hurdles, 5th place - 300m Hurdles), Bo Allen (3rd place - 300m Hurdles), Mason Stein (3rd place - Shot Put), Parker Braithwaite (6th place - Shot Put), Bryce Braithwaite (2nd place - Discus), Harper Pool (3rd place - High Jump), Anthony Tang (1st place - Pole Vault), Triton Freels (5th place - Long Jump).

Lovejoy Spring Distance Festival
This event continues to grow and we saw many great performances under the lights. In the 800m, we had four athletes (Grant Gueller - 2:03.62, Brady Laboret - 2:04.05, Mason Heruska - 2:07.46, and Erik Day - 2:07.86) finish in the top ten. We had strong performances in the 1600m as well with 6 of our runners (Brett Pedersen - 4:28.32, Ryan Brands - 4:32.78, Michael O'Brien - 4:42.57, Trevor Malik - 4:48.91, Chayden Du Bois - 4:50.91, and Alex Pedersen - 4:58.85) under the 5:00 mark. Bradley Davis finished 3rd in the 3200m Run with a time of 9:53.49. The last event of the night was the 2000m Steeplechase where Will Muirhead set a new school record with a time of 6:07.77 - the nation's 2nd best time. Brady Laboret - 6:33.15, Whitson Bedell - 6:36.52, and Zane Edwards - 6:43.35 also finished in the top 10.

Please click here for full results of the Lovejoy Spring Distance Festival.

Hebron Hawk Relays
This past Friday, we had two athletes participate at the Hebron Hawk Relays at Hebron High School. James Rainey had a 3rd place finish in the Shot Put (50' 6.5") and a 4th place finish in the Discus (136' 0"). Jake Chamberlin competed in three events with a 3rd place finish in the 100m (11.29), a 4th place finish in the 400m (49.60), and a 2nd place finish in the 200m (22.27).

Please click here for full results of the Hebron Hawk Relays.

Texas Distance Festival
On Saturday, we had 14 of our athletes compete at the Texas Distance Festival in Southlake. We had two top 10 finishes in a very competitive meet. Will Muirhead continues to lower his 1600m time, finishing 10th in that event with a 4:27.46 and Brett Pedersen finished 6th overall in the 3200m with a time of 9:40.85, a personal record by more than 35 seconds!

Please click here for full results of the Texas Distance Festival.

Noteworthy Performance!
Sophomore Michael DesJardins recently broke the school record for pole vault by an inch with a jump of 14'7". The amazing thing about this is... Michael jumped only 9'6" in his freshman year, and his best vault going into the winter indoor season in December was 11'8", so he has bettered his vault height by almost 5 feet!!
