In the Journal of Health Economics, Rachel Werner and colleagues find that hospitals that integrate with skilled nursing facilities see an increase in Medicare payments, and a reduction in rehospitalization rates. Research Brief
In JAMA Internal Medicine, Elinore Kaufman, Douglas Wiebe, and colleagues find that states with strong gun laws had lower rates of firearm-related homicide and suicide than states with less regulation, with potential spillover effects across state lines. Research Brief
In JAMA, Amol Navathe and colleagues examine hospital savings and quality results for the first year of mandatory bundled payment for hip and knee surgery. They find that larger, higher-volume, and non-profit hospitals are more likely to achieve savings. Summary

Benjamin Ukert and Elena Andreyeva, both post-docs at Wharton, are studying the decline in Australia's firearm deaths from 1997-2013 to determine how much of the decline can be attributed to the country's gun law reforms introduced in 1996. News

Dr. Mandell is Professor of Psychiatry and Pediatrics at Penn, where he also directs the Center for Mental Health Policy and Services Research.
