PTA Grants: Increased Recess and Lunch Supervision

The PTA Board recently voted unanimously in favor of two one-time grant requests from Principal Shearer. These large-sum grant requests were then brought to the PTA general membership, and were also unanimously approved.
Puesta del Sol has successfully piloted and voted in favor of continuing their new recess before lunch program. This pilot has received 100% staff backing, and numerous parents are sharing that students are eating much better.
$8424 was granted to offset the cost of needed, increased recess supervision, and $4493 was granted to offset the cost of needed, increased lunch supervision for the 2017-2018 school year.

Puesta del Sol Students Advance to the Reflections State Art Competition!
|

Congratulations to Nathan L., Trinity L. and Nadia M. for being named finalists at the District Reflections art competition! These students will advance to the state competition.
In addition, recipients of the Artistic Excellence ribbon were Cloe T., Gabriel P.D., Faith P. and Levi S.
Recipients of the Artistic Merit ribbons were Charlie R., Anna J., Marissa L. and Rachel P.

Puesta del Sol Endorses Bellevue Quality Schools
|
|
|
The Puesta del Sol Board of of Directors voted to officially endorse Bellevue Quality Schools and the three levy measures that are on the ballot this month.
On February 13, each and every one of our 20,000+ students need your continued support! Vote YES on the three levies which will allow the Bellevue School District to continue our expanded education. It is up to our voters to renew the levies that fund the expanded education our community demands and our students deserve. Without the 3 levies there will be cuts programs, services and staff. Spanish Immersion through the Arts (SITA) would like to thank all the volunteers who joined us during our school-wide art workshops with Mexican artist, Adriana Morales! Student work produced during the workshop will be on display at this year's Art Fest on April 4th.

Staff Appreciation Treat Days

As part of the ongoing effort to show staff how much we appreciate their talents and skills, each grade level has been assigned a day to bring in treats for the staff; look for details from your room parent. (5th graders aren't included due to their busy schedule).

May 7-11 is Staff Appreciation Week

The Jubilee Service Day team would like to say "THANK YOU again for your help with Jubilee Service Day at Puesta Del Sol in August 2017! We sincerely appreciate all your hard work; the day was a huge success!"
If you are interested in helping with the 2018 Jubilee Service Day at Puesta Del Sol - it will be held on SATURDAY, AUGUST 25, 2018. Please save the date, as perhaps some of you are already making summer plans.
For those who don't know what it is: Jubilee Service Day is an on-site volunteering effort before school starts. Nearly 180 volunteers came out in August 2017 to support Puesta del Sol staff in organizing and preparing for the start of the school year.

Staff Spotlight:
Dana
Cuykendall
Dana Cuykendall is one of our four fabulous Kindergarten teachers, having taught at our school for the last five years.
Srta. Dana, fell in love while living in Chile, and together they relocated back to Bellevue. Dana student taught 5th grade at Puesta del Sol under the amazing Toni Marquez.
We think it might be destiny that brought Srta. Dana to PdS. As a student teacher, she discovered that our school, previously Sunset Elementary, was where her own grandmother had taught for 17 years.
When not teaching, Srta. Dana enjoys hiking and painting watercolor. Thank you, Srta. Dana, for your enthusiasm and passion!

Registration Open for Girls on the Run at Puesta del Sol!
|
|
|
Fo
r 3rd-5th grade girls.
Girls will have fun, build physical endurance and learn important, age appropriate, life skills with trained coaches who are also Puesta del Sol teachers. The program culminates in a fun 5k event.
Girls on the Run will take place Tuesday and Thursday mornings, from 7:30 am - 8:45 am, March 5 - May 2.
