FEATURED EVENT:  Hillsboro Schools Summit
More than 50 students, staff, and community members attended the fourth-annual Hillsboro Schools Summit on Tuesday, March 13. Superintendent Scott welcomed the guests and shared some important information about student achievement and the progress of the recently-passed bond, but the highlight of the event was a high school panel discussion that focused on some of the programs and supports that make HSD great: AVID, Career and College Pathways, dual language, STEM/STEAM, robotics, alternative learning, and more. Check out the Summit video and brochure for more information.

2018-19 School Calendar Change
UPCOMING
EVENTS
At their meeting on Tuesday, March 13, the Hillsboro School Board approved three changes to the 2018-19 calendar:
  • A no-school day was added on Wednesday, Nov. 21, 2018;
  • Winter break will be Monday, Dec. 24, 2018, through Friday, Jan. 4, 2019; and
  • The last day for students in grades K-11 will be Friday, June 14, 2019.
There will be no change to the graduation dates for seniors. In the event of inclement weather, additional days could be added the week of June 17. The changes were made to maximize learning time prior to Winter Break, better align with no-school days in surrounding districts, and to avoid having students return for their last day on a Monday.

"Kids do well if they can" or "kids do well if they want to?" To which do you prescribe? If you prescribe to the theories of Stuart Ablon and Ross Greene, it's all about the "can." This school year, Nutrition Services transitioned from an annual cycle menu to three cycle menus to allow students a greater variety and an opportunity to pilot some new products like fruit and yogurt smoothies and pulled pork sliders.
