Dear Saint Rose Families,

Catholic Schools Week has been a lot of fun! We are very busy serving,  worshiping, spending time with our buddies, dressing up like our favorite teachers and even eating donuts! Please see the link below for some pictures from the week.

Our Open House was a great success. Thank you to all of our Saint Rose teachers, faculty and volunteers who helped to make the day possible. I believe that the day was a great reflection of our community and all that it has to offer our students. Thank you for all of your support.

Sincerely,

Bryon Borgelt

Catholic Schools Week

What a great week it's been celebrating Catholic Schools! From mix and match day, to dressing like teachers, our students have shown their school spirit. Students also had the opportunity to spend time with their buddy classes while doing service for others. This week has truly been a special one! Don't miss the culmination to our week with the annual faculty vs. 8th grade volleyball game!

Congratulations MathCounts Team!

The Saint Rose MathCounts team competed in the regional competition at the University of Toledo last Saturday.  The team placed 6th out of 20 teams from northwest Ohio.   Eighth graders Nicholas Basista and Liam Alkire along with seventh grader Maya Fister placed in the top 16 students (from more than 150) and participated in the exciting Countdown Round.   Liam and Maya qualified for the State Competition in Columbus on March 10!
Other members of the team include Martin Beredo and Katie Hoyt.  Competing as individuals were Andrew Turner, Evan McConnachie, Jayan Fernandes, Luci Kuh, and Enora Boutrand.  Emma Fister and Daniel Cavanagh participated in the school meetings.  Congratulations to all of these mathletes!

Class Mass for 2nd Grade Students - February 11

The next Class mass will be held on Sunday, February 11 at the 9am Mass.  Families with children in 2nd grade are invited to worship together and to gather for a light reception to socialize in the Sacred Heart Center (school cafeteria) following Mass. This is a wonderful time to strengthen or create bonds of Christian friendship. This is open to all parishioners and school families.

Please CLICK HERE to RSVP with the number who will be attending so that pews can be reserved in the front near the Saint Joseph altar and so that food can be provided. You can also sign up for your family to bring up the Offertory gifts or to be Greeters before Mass. Alternatively, you may RSVP with your family name and number of attendees by emailing Anne Brahier at [email protected].

The response to the first Class Masses has been very positive. The Parish/School Relations Subcommittee hopes that many families will attend on February 11.

Thank you

This month's lesson will focus on the Lifeskill of Respect and how to show kindness with our words and actions. We discussed the importance of knowing how to show respect not only at school, but also in all aspects of our everyday lives.

Guidance Lesson Recap:
Grade K:  We read the story Llama Llama and the Bully Goat, by Anna Dewdney. The story focused on a little llama who had a hard time with another student putting her down and saying unkind words. In the end, the friends learned the importance of standing up for herself. We also discussed examples of what to say in situations when friendship issues arise.

Grades 1: We read the book Yes We Can! by Sam McBratney. This story emphasized how giving compliments and encouraging others is a great way to build friendships and show respect. In the story, the duck, rabbit, and the little mouse all realized that they all have different strengths to focus on rather than each other's weaknesses.

Grades 2-3: We read the book  Andrews's Angry Words by Dorothea Lachner. The book was about a boy who said hurtful words to his sister when he got frustrated. The lesson showed how saying hurtful words can affect many people in having a chain reaction when our mood can rub off on others. As a class, we discussed respectful ways to react when frustrated and discussed the importance of staying calm when frustrated.

Grades 4-5: We read the book The Three Bully Goats Gruff by Caldecott Medalist & Jerry Pinkney. Our lesson focused on how these three bully goals showed disrespect to others in many ways, such as with put downs and not respecting other's property. As a class, we brainstormed many positive ways to treat others with respect and how to stand up for yourself if someone is disrespectful to you.

Grades 6-8: We discussed as a group how important it is to be respectful to others. We brainstormed many ways to show respect to others and focused on following directions the first time. As a tie in to that example, the students all participated in the game of Simon Says.
