STAR Student and STAR Teacher
Congratulations to Madelyn Scandlen who was selected STAR Student for Cambridge High School. Seniors with the highest SAT score for the 2017-2018 school year and are in the top 10% of their class earn this honor. Madelyn selected Mr. David Pomerance as the STAR Teacher for having the most impact on her academic success.
The Student Teacher Achievement Recognition (STAR) program honors Georgia's highest achieving high school seniors and teachers who have been most instrumental in their academic development.

School Governance Council
Parent/Guardian and Teacher Elections
Cambridge High School will be electing new representatives to serve on the School Governance Council. Two parent/guardian positions and one teacher position are open for election this spring. Our School Governance Council has a leadership role in the governance of the school. The Council works with the Principal on the long-term vision and strategy for the school. They are responsible for approving the school's strategic plan and budget recommendations, as well as design innovative solutions to increase academic achievement and meet the unique needs of our school community. This past year, our Council worked diligently to develop a request for flexibility to allow for an increase in time for our teachers to participate in Professional Learning Communities, and a request for seed funds to help address security needs.
Elections for the parent/guardian and teacher positions on the School Governance Council will be held March 19 - March 23, 2018. Candidates interested in running for an elected position on the Council must complete a candidate declaration form and submit to the district office by February 23, 2018.

Course Registration Process and Timeline - 2018-2019
First round distributed to students Monday, January 29
On Monday, January 29, 9th - 11th grade students will receive the first of three Course Verification Forms for the 2018-2019 Course Registration. For more information about the process and timeliness, please visit our web site at

Dual Enrollment Resources
On January 29, the Counseling Department held a Dual Enrollment Night sharing information for Fall 2018 dual enrollment registration and course offerings. Topics included:

- The application process for both the college and the high school

New AP Exam Registration Policy
Registration now open
Taking the Advanced Placement exams is an important part of all AP courses. Cambridge High School desires that all students take AP exams for the AP classes that they have taken. Scoring well on an AP exam can often earn students college credit for their high school class, saving a significant amount on tuition.
For the 2018 AP exams, students at Cambridge High School will be registering online. This registration will take a few minutes and can be completed from any device with internet access.
This year each AP exam is free for students currently enrolled in AP courses. Cambridge High School desires that every student be able to take their AP exams. Any current student NOT enrolled in an AP courses, but wishes to sit for an AP exam in a course, will incur a fee of $94 per exam.

PAW Change Request Form
Now open
 Students,
You have the flexibility to change your PAWS throughout the semester. Once you have completed your request form, please continue to follow your current schedule until you receive a new schedule indicating your change has been completed. Please note that some classes do fill up and most are only offered on a specific day. Your alternate selection will be assigned if your request is not available, or you will be put on a waitlist until a seat opens up in that class. Note, all academic requests are given first priority for changes. All other requests are filled on a first come first served basis. Making multiple or duplicate requests slow the process.
Parents,
Students are asked to complete the PAWS request form to advocate for their interest or where they need support. Should a student require support in a specific subject area, the student's teacher, grade-level administrator, or counselor will make a request to have a student's PAWS schedule changed to support that need.

Are you interested in Information technology, and want to get behind the scenes of Fulton County Schools' IT Division this summer? If so, here is your chance.
Paid internship offers include working at North and South County Schools from 8:00 am - 4:00 pm, Monday through Friday.
Interviews are February 21, 2018. Bring your resume to Ms. Yarrington in room 2.445 no later than February 20 to be considered.

Flu Season is in Full Swing
Message from Student Health Services
The Georgia Department of Public Health (DPH) has announced this week the flu is widespread in Georgia. More than three hundred individuals have been hospitalized with flu-related illness. Therefore, they are encouraging if you have not gotten a flu shot yet, do not wait any longer!
According to DPH, the predominant strain of flu circulating in Georgia and around the country is influenza A (H3N2). This strain can be particularly hard on young children, people over the age of 65 and those with existing medical conditions. H3N2 is one of the strains contained in this year's flu vaccine along with two or three others, depending on the vaccine. Dr. J. Patrick O'Neal DPH Commissioners says, "It is not too late to get a flu shot. Every individual over the age of six months should a get a flu vaccine - not just for their own protection, but to protect others around them who may be more vulnerable to the flu and its complications."
Flu symptoms can vary in their intensity and from person to person, and can include fever, cough, sore throat, runny or stuffy nose, body aches, headache, chills and fatigue. If you think you have the flu, call or visit your doctor or a healthcare provider.

Rise Against Hunger Meal Packing Event
Friday, March 2
The Rotary Club of Milton will be hosting their 4th annual meal packing event with "Rise Against Hunger" on Friday, March 2, 3:30 pm in the CHS Cafeteria. Student, parent, and teacher volunteers are needed to pack nearly 22.000 meals.
RAH is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to provide meals to children in developing countries.

FBLA Volunteers Needed at March of Dimes Walk
There are three ways to participate and help families who have given birth to a premature baby. You can walk, donate or volunteer with the Cambridge FBLA chapter. Sign-up with Coach Gray or Ms. Yarrington. Donations to March of Dimes benefit families that have given birth to a premature baby.
