"
Come take a step back in time to 1864. Find out how Californians reacted to the great Civil War that was embroiling the rest of the nation! See how Californians lived back in wild and wooly frontier California. Meet the soldiers and civilians that kept California in the United States of America.
At this weekend reenactment, visitors are invited to meet and talk to the soldiers and civilians that lived and worked at Fort Tejon 154 years ago. Hands-on interpretive learning demonstrations will be conducted for the park visitor. This interpretive program will demonstrate to the public, the duties and activities of the civilians and soldiers at this historic mountain post. Civilians from the time period and soldiers of the 2nd Infantry Regiment will portray actual persons that were at Fort Tejon in accurate and authentic first-person representations.

Through a multi-media presentation, Holly will share a wealth of stories and beautiful images from her adventurous life, including behind the scenes images from Jean-Michel Cousteau Ocean Futures Society's latest IMAX film,
Secret Ocean 3D.
With a degree in aquatic biology from UC Santa Barbara and experience in the ocean realm around the world, Holly speaks to the beauty and crises facing our water planet, highlighting the complexities of the ocean environment and some of the impacts threatening the long-term vitality of our oceans. Using kelp forests and coral reefs to exemplify a sustainable underwater city, Holly will detail many lessons the ocean can teach us, inspiring us all to take part in the global solution of marine conservation and stewardship. Protecting our ocean now will be our gift to the future.

Strathearn Historical Park
"Civil War Days"
Step back with us to another place and time, when President Lincoln could take a break from his Washington duties to give a speech on the steps of our Strathearn House. Costumed civilians, as well as soldiers from the north and south stand ready in their camps, eager to tell their stories to the passing visitor. Sergeants drill groups of local boys and girls curious to experience military life. Skirmishes, as well as artillery, infantry and cavalry demonstrations will take place throughout the weekend.

"Full Steam Ahead! Stories of the Southern Pacific Railway
"
Immerse yourself in the history of Southern Pacific Railway. See a multitude of train artifacts and memorabilia, experience the earliest stages of the rail line depots, and learn why railroad tracks were laid down throughout Santa Paula, making it the historical city it is today. With depot blueprints, newspaper articles, collectible railroadiana, and a replica ticket booth, this exhibit will take you back to a bygone era. Full Steam Ahead! runs through February 25th. The California Oil Museum is located at 1001 E. Main Street in Santa Paula.

Camp Roberts Museum
"New Military Exhibits"
Camp Roberts opened as the U.S. Army's largest basic training installation in mid-1941, just prior to us entering World War II. For the last 30 years, the volunteers at the Camp Roberts Historical Museum have been preserving and relating the camp's long and important role in our nation's defense, through WWII and the Korean War, and up to its current role as the main training site for the California Army National Guard. The camp also hosts training units from all the other US military components, regular and reserve, as well as those from allied nations.
There are always new museum exhibits for guests to enjoy. Since the big expansion of the large Afghanistan Exhibit, museum volunteers have completed an Army field mess exhibit, a Vietnam era field hospital exhibit, and are building a new exhibit on helicopter training close to their Cobra attack helicopter. They are also hard at work on expanding and upgrading the large picnic and event center at the Main Museum. It is the largest Army museum complex in California and the state's official military museum. Enjoy the Museum's featured history video, research library, gift shop, and the Wall of Fame (icluding Robert Mitchum, Steve Allen, Bob Newhart, Red Skelton, and William Holden).
Climb into military vehicles and try on uniforms!

Mullin Automotive Museum
"Citroën: The Man, The Marque, The Mystique"
Come experience a sampling from one of the most innovative French automobile manufacturers of the 20th century, Citroën! These fascinating automobiles encompassed technology way ahead of their time, in futuristic bodies. Come enjoy some of the best examples built by this marque in a retrospective exhibit at the Mullin Automotive Museum.
Reservations required. Semi-Private tours held Tuesdays at 10am and Thursdays at 11am for $40 per person. Saturday admission is Adults $15, Seniors $12 (65+), Children $8 (3-11), Children under 2 & active Military with ID FREE.

Pleasant Valley Historical Society Museum
"Hello! -- Antique Phones Exhibit & Silent Auction"
Bill Doctorman, who recently died at the age of 89, had an extensive collection of historic phones. He willed his collection to the Pleasant Valley Historical Society (PVHS). Receipts found for phones that were purchased in his home state of Illinois indicate that he had been accumulating them for most of his lifetime.
The PVHS museum currently has about 100 phones on display from the late 1880s through the 1980s. Included are the wooden (usually oak) farm phones of various styles through the candlestick and art deco phones. It is fascinating to see how creative American manufacturers could be. The exhibit also includes European phones that illustrate the standardization of style throughout the world.
The Museum received over 200 phones from the Doctorman legacy and will be having a silent auction offering the excess to the community. Stop by to see this unusual exhibit which includes a display for young children to experience "dialing" a telephone.

The Camarillo Ranch
"House Tours"
Step back in time and visit the home of Adolfo Camarillo, known in Ventura County as "the Last Spanish Don." Visitors to the Camarillo Ranch can tour all 15 rooms of the beautifully restored 1892 Queen Anne Victorian home, explore the many gardens and the massive root system of the towering Moreton Bay Fig Tree, and see the original 1905 Mule Barn, and the 1964 Stables that housed the famous Camarillo White Horses.
Tours of the Victorian home are available on Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays, 12pm - 3pm.
Group Tours for 8 or more people must be scheduled in advance.

Olivas Adobe
The Olivas Adobe Historical Interpreters welcome you to come for a docent led, history-packed tour. Tours are given Saturdays and Sundays starting at 11am, with the last tour departing at 3pm. Come and travel back in time to the Rancho Period at the home of Don Raymundo Olivas, his wife Teadora, and their twenty one children.

"The Vietnam War"
The Vietnam War was the second-longest war in United States history, after the war in Afghanistan.
Commitments to the people and government of South Vietnam to keep communist forces from overtaking them reached back into the Truman Administration. Eisenhower placed military advisers and CIA operatives in Vietnam, and John F. Kennedy sent American soldiers to Vietnam. Lyndon Johnson ordered the first real combat by American troops, and Richard Nixon concluded the war.
Despite the decades of resolve, billions and billions of dollars, nearly 60,000 American lives and many more injuries, the United States failed to achieve its objectives. Learn about Montebello's Reggie J. Rodriguez who made the ultimate sacrifice and is honored by having a city park named after him.

Pleasant Valley Historical Society & Museum
Free: "Allis-Chalmers WD Row Crop Tractor"
The Pleasant Valley Historical Society & Museum has received a working tractor to be part of their permanent display. Lou Oliver of Camarillo, a member of the Topa Flywheelers Tractor Club, has given his fully restored 1952 Allis-Chalmers WD row crop tractor to the Museum.
"Allis," as she is called, was purchased new in 1952 from Power Tractor by the Tanaka Bros. Farms. She worked well and hard for over forty years. She was restored by Leonard Oliver and brought back to Camarillo in 2006 by Lou. On a bright, sunny morning in late November, members from PVHS met at a ranch in the Las Posas Valley where Allis was stored. She started right up and drove onto the flatbed that took her to the Museum where she now resides. Plans are underway to build a protective home in keeping with her history.

"75th Diamond Jubilee Anniversary"
It has been 75 years since Camp Roberts first opened as the United States Army's largest basic training installation, just before our nation entered World War II. For the last 30 years, the volunteers at the Camp Roberts Historical Museum have been preserving and relating the camp's important history as the US Army's largest basic training camp. Camp Roberts has been the main training site for the California Army National Guard for the past 45 years .
