Grant Applications Now Open


EMS Education Foundation teaching grant applications are now available online at  www.emsef.org/for-employees . Applications can be turned into the Education Foundation office located in the Hollenstein. The deadline for submissions is March 21, 2018. Grant recipients will be notified in May and funds will be available in August 2018.

The Foundation offers two types of grants: 
  • Teaching Grants with a value of approximately $1,000. 
  • 21st Century Learning Grant, with a maximum value of $10,000.

UIL Releases 2018-2020 Realignment


The University Interscholastic League (UIL) released the 2018-2020 realignment on Thursday, February 1. UIL aligns the districts every two years to account for population shifts and the opening of new schools.

Tickets for EMS ISD's Fine Arts Showcase at Bass Performance Hall are on sale through the Bass Hall box office. This year's show features five elementary choirs, the high school dance programs, and the middle school and high school bands.

Print Form 1095-C from Employee Access


On December 22, 2017, the IRS announced that the due date for health coverage information forms, Forms 1095-B or 1095-C, has been extended for 2018. Insurers, self-insuring employers, other coverage providers and applicable large employers will now have until March 2, 2018, to provide the forms to employees. The original date was January 31, 2018.

Forms 1095-B and 1095-C are provided to employees and covered individuals outlining the health care coverage that was offered to them. Individuals receiving the forms are not required to file the 1095-B or 1095-C with their tax return. The form is for informational purposes and individuals may use the information provided on the form to determine if they may claim the premium tax credit on their individual income tax returns based on whether they had coverage in each month in 2017. John Abendschan 
Head Football Coach | Boys Athletic Coordinator

Boswell football coach named District 6-5A Coach of the Year

Boswell High School football coach of 12 years, John Abendschan, was named the 2017-18 District 6-5A Coach of the Year. 
 
In addition, Abendschan was named as a semifinalist for Coach of the Year at the Sixth Annual 1st Down Club of Dallas-Fort Worth Awards Banquet at the Mansfield ISD Center for the Performing Arts on January 18. The 1st Down Club is a committee made up of local head football coaches from North Texas.  
 
"It is a true honor to be recognized from such a great organization," Abendschan said. "This nomination is a tribute to this school, these kids, and my coaches. I am blessed." 
 
Coach Ab, as he is known by his players, took the Pioneers to a 10-2 season in 2017. This is the third consecutive season that Abendschan led the Pioneers to a post-season appearance in recent memory. The Pioneers have also broken multiple records with Abendschan at the helm.
