A Message From Our CEO

Donell Edwards, CEO
Greetings CWR Nation,

Thank you for loyally supporting The CWR Talk Network. We are building a multicultural community with the objective of uniting people from different racial, cultural and ethnic backgrounds by focusing on the causes and issues that affect all of us, and particularly people of color.

During this month, which is Black History Month, we will be featuring our series, Black American Profiles, featuring the achievements of black people in America and around the world who have made outstanding contributions to society, as well as highlights from events that have not only shaped black history, but American and world history.

In keeping with a tradition that we started while publishing the online student empowerment magazine, The College World Reporter, we will follow this same process during Women's History Month in March, Asian Pacific American Heritage Month in May, and Hispanic Heritage Month from September 15 - October 15.

We strongly encourage you to become involved with our programs and call the hosts and share your comments, and ask questions, to add to the many ongoing conversations that begin right here on The CWR Talk Network, and we hope will continue in your homes and communities.  Your input, concerns, interests, and suggestions are very important to us.  So, don't be shy, talk with us, we want to be friends.  Call 917-889-8078 during any program to ask a question or to make a comment.

We are also proud to formally announce that all of the programs on The CWR Talk Network are now available on iTunes and Stitcher.  You may access our programs by downloading the iTunes or Stitcher app on your smartphone or tablet, if you do not already have those apps, or you may listen on your computer through the links below:

Thank you again for your loyalty and support, and be involved in some way in supporting Black History Month.

At The Movies
Black Panther

The movie everyone has been talking about for months finally arrives on the 16th of this month, "Black Panther."  It has already broken all of the pre-sales records for a Marvel Studios film.

According to Fandango, "Black Panther" is outpacing all superhero movies
in advance
ticket sales for Fandango's online tickets service, eclipsing 2016's "Batman v Superman."
Projections are
that the movie is heading for as much as $150 million in its North American opening on the four-day Presidents Day weekend.  If those projections hold true,  "Black Panther" could break the Presidents Day weekend record of $152 million, set in 2016 by "Deadpool." It will easily top the second-highest debut for  the four-day holiday, set in 2015 when "Fifty Shades of Grey" opened with $93 million. (Source:  Variety)

But just what is the storyline for those who do not already know?  If you want to be totally clueless when you go to see the movie, stop reading now.

"Black Panther" follows T'Challa who, after the death of his father, the King of Wakanda, returns home to the isolated, technologically advanced African nation to succeed to the throne and take his rightful place as king. But when a powerful old enemy reappears, T'Challa's mettle as king - and Black Panther - is tested when he is drawn into a formidable conflict that puts the fate of Wakanda and the entire world at risk. Faced with treachery and danger, the young king must rally his allies and release the full power of Black Panther to defeat his foes and secure the safety of his people and their way of life.

Introducing PORCELAIN
A Star Is Born

Early in my career I was a DJ, and later became the Program Director of the station where I worked.  I have always prided myself on my ability to recognize talent.
When I first heard this young lady, I knew that she would be a star, and she has exceeded all expectations.  I predict that Miss Porcelain is on her way to super stardom.

Porcelan is one of the first recording artists to sign at Memphis' new record label, Made In Memphis, founded by Stax music legend  David Porter
, who was one-half of the phenomenal Hayes/Porter songwriting team at Stax, along with legendary Isaac Hayes.

Porter has worked with entertainment icons like Sam & Dave, Aretha Franklin, Drake, Celine Dion, and Eminem.  He compares Porcelan to the best in the business.

Here is the incredible and soulful remix of Porcelain's hit, The Real Thing Don't Change.

ENJOY!

Lionel Shipman Releases New Book
Sacred Vows: The Knot or Not

Two of the biggest challenges facing many people today are:  (1) finding a compatible mate with similar values and beliefs and (2) maintaining a healthy and loving marital relationship.  Sacred Vows: The Knot or Not is unique because it goes beyond giving you relationship advice.  It helps couples seeking to be married face the realities of marriage and family by taking them through a journey of real-life questions that opens the door of effective communication.  It also helps married couples with effective communication by revisiting problem areas of their relationship that they may be facing.  Sacred Vows: The Knot or Not causes you to answer the "tough" questions of your relationship.  Does it have all of the answers?  No.  Does it address every issue or problem?  No.  Will it determine the fate of your relationship?  No.  That's for you and your potential mate or spouse to decide.  Get your copy of Sacred Vows:  The Knot or Not today at Amazon.com,  and listen to the Lionel Shipman $hape Your Finances Show every Tuesday at 7:30 PM CST, exclusively on The CWR Talk Network.

Young Authors Showcase
LaTasha Burl
The CWR Talk Network is proud to support young, aspiring authors.
This month we feature the book, A Girl Developing Into Womanhood,
by LaTasha Burl.

"Here is a young poet who writes with energy and passion about friendships, love, dreams, and growing up.  LaTasha Burl is not afraid to step forward and say what is on her mind.  We are better for having a chance to listen." - Elizabeth C. Simon,
Children's Editor and Writer

A Girl Developing Into Womanhood, by LaTasha Burl, was written by my daughter when she was 15 years old. She brought me this manuscript in a binder one day after-school when I was going through a rough time in my life. This book gave me life; encouraged, inspired, and determined to do better for myself and my children. I soon developed the idea of the need for an organization that could assist families in my community who were experiencing the same desperation as me. The need to provide for my family and not to have enough to do so, despite working a full-time job as a single mother.

23 years later, LaTasha is continuing to inspire me by allowing me the opportunity to use this book to support my endeavors for helping others.

In support of providing resources for the Radio Show, Read, Read, Read, on The CWR Talk Network, providing book club materials and school supply resources for the reading programs supporting college students, mentoring youth in economically challenged communities in Maryland, Illinois, Tennessee, and Arkansas.
