Soave Is New Professor, Chair and Dean of Medicine Department
Award Is Named After Soave by NYSPMA

Ronald Soave, DPM, FACFAS
, a member of  NYCPM's Class of 1982, replaced the retiring Thomas DeLauro, DPM as Professor and Chair of the Department of Medicine, and has the added title of Dean of the Department. Dr. Soave worked at New York Methodist Hospital from 1985-2017, where he founded the hospital's Podiatry Residency Program and served as Chief of Podiatry. He has been involved with graduate medical education for over 30 years.
At the December downstate NYSPMA meeting, Dr. Soave was presented with the first-ever "Ronald L. Soave, DPM, FACFAS Integrity and Excellence in Podiatry Award," which will be presented annually. The inscription on the award reads: "In recognition for your time and dedication to the podiatric profession and for the Admiration and Gratitude for all you have taught."

5, a new system that enables our clinicians to gain valuable insight into underly-ing gait abnormalities, inefficiencies or imbalances
that might otherwise go undetected, a system described by Jeffrey J. Cusack, DPM ('81), Assistant Professor of Orthopedics, who runs the Gait
Lab, as

Johanna F. Godoy, DPM
Assistant Professor of Surgical Sciences
 A member of the NYCPM Class of 2005, Johanna F. Godoy, DPM earned her BS in biology (with a minor in biochemistry) at Montclair State University in New Jersey and served her residency at Geisinger Community Medical Center in Scranton, PA, under residency director Guido Laporta. She started working full time at the College in 2008, and remained full time for eight years.

Alumni Reception at NY18, the Podiatric Clinical Conference and Exhibition, Draws Many Graduates
A busy Saturday (January 20) at NY18, the Podiatric Clinical Conference and Exhibition, was capped by a big reception for NYCPM alumni sponsored by the Rhett Foundation. Drs. Jonathan Levy ('09), President of the NYCPM Alumni Relations Association; Michael J. NYCPM Consider Others over Holiday Season I
NYCPM students thought of those less fortunate in the community during the holiday season and acted to help.
The Student National Podiatric Medical Association (SNPMA) sponsored a coat drive under the auspices of New York Cares. SNPMA collected 40 winter coats, to be distributed by New York Cares to individuals and families in need of warm coats for the winter. While it was the SNPMA's second coat drive, it was New York Cares' 29th.
The Public Health Club organized a shoe drive that took contributions from just after Thanksgiving through New Year's, and collected 75 pairs of shoes from the College! All of the shoes were donated to the West Harlem Shelter.
Before the footwear was brought to the shelter, members of the Public Health Club posed proudly with the shoes they collected. I just wanted to write a brief update from the Sock Drive Fundraiser and the result of NYCPM's National Day of Service & Remembrance on 9/11/17. Wade Chimerofsky (2019) had been coordinating with the Einstein School of Medicine to throw a holiday party at the Living Room Shelter in the Bronx. . retired at the end of 2017 after 18 years and three months at NYCPM. He has been replaced by

, who was promoted from Assistant Director, a post he'd held for almost four years.

Jeremy Rambarran Promoted in IT
Jeremy Rambarran
has been promoted to Cloud  Solutions Manager in the IT Department, Chief Information Officer, Aman Safaei has announced. His new responsibilities include the coordination, development,
and implementation of processes necessary to enable the use of cloud-based applications within our organization. Mr. Rambarran's primary assignment will be to plan and implement a disaster recovery solution for NYCPM/FCNY. He has been with NYCPM/FCNY for three years; he
attended CUNY - NYC College of Technology and came to NYCPM after graduation. He is currently working toward his master's degree at Touro Graduate School of Technology.

Superbones Wounds East Conference to Feature NYCPM Faculty, Speakers from NUI Galway
The 2018 Superbones Wounds East conference, to be held April 6-8 at the Teaneck Marriott at Glenpointe, Teaneck, NJ, will feature presentations by four NYCPM faculty. Jeffrey Cusack, DPM ('81) will present "Musings on the Midtarsal Joint: Clinical Implications;" Robert Eckles, DPM will discuss "Terminal Outcomes in the Diabetic Foot - How Does the Timeline of Podiatric Biomechanical Intervention Modify Them?"; Kevin Jules, DPM ('84) will present "Peroneal Tendon Disorders - When to Operate and When to Not;" Michael J. Trepal, DPM ('81) will discuss "The Hammered Hallux - What to Do with It."
In addition, a component of the conference will include the fourth annual TransAtlantic Conference with speakers from the Podiatry College at the National University of Ireland in Galway, part of a long-standing affiliation between NYCPM and NUI.

In Memoriam
Jonathan Haber, DPM ('74)
Jonathan Haber, DPM
, a member of NYCPM's Class of 1974, passed away on December 10 after a long battle with pancreatic cancer.
Most recently Professor Emeritus of Surgical Sciences and Associate Dean for Special Academic Projects at NYCPM, Dr. Haber graduated from and served his residency at NYCPM, and
remained at the College to train several generations of podiatric surgeons. In addition to his college activities, Dr. Haber served as the residency director for St. Barnabas Hospital in NJ, was a past chair of CPME, a past president of NBPME and maintained a private practice. Most recently, he was honored at the NYCPM Alumni Gala in late October with its Alumni Lifetime Achievement Award. Following his family, which always came first, Dr. Haber's loves were podiatry, golf, wine and cigars. He will be greatly missed.

In Memoriam
Carl Kirschner, DPM ('60)
Carl Kirschner, DPM ('60), age 86, passed away on November 6. He was a resident of Rochester Hills, Michigan. According to Arthur Gudeon, also a member of the Class of 1960, Dr. Kirschner
was older than most in the class, having served in the Army before entering NYCPM, and was probably also the funniest in the class.

William L. Reider, DPM ('56)
William L. Reider, DPM ('56) passed away on December 3, 2017. Dr. Reider practiced in Briarwood, Queens and Dix Hills, New York for 41 years. He was a past president, at age 31, of The Queens County Podiatry Society. Dr. Reider retired and sold his practice in 1998 and moved to Boca Raton, Florida. For years, he remained active writing and publishing articles and attending conventions. Source: PM News.
