PRE-K:
Prek has been enjoying being back after winter break! We celebrated Tu b'shevat with a wonderful Seder with fruits and juices and read Dr. Seuss's The Lorax to better understand the importance of taking care of our earth. We're all looking forward to yoga with our parents in the coming sessions! We've also enjoyed learning about the Garden of Eden and creating our own pictures of the tree of knowledge. Can't wait for spring! -
Ms. Josie
First + Second:
We are working very hard on our Alef Bet and are becoming very strong readers! We've finished our study of the bible up to Joseph going to Egypt. We look forward to learning new things every session and are always busy with projects! -Ms. Michelle
Third:
The third graders of Shalom School have been Torah busy! Rabbi Haas gave us an up close and personal lesson on the physical scrolls, and how they are produced, dressed, cared for, and read. The students are also producing their own scrolls about their individual families' histories and how they came to America. They will soon add a little about their current families and make covers for them when everything has been added to their scrolls! In class, we have been reading about Abraham and how he left his home to start a family that would become the Jews. There is a lot going on in the third grade, and we have much more in store for the rest of the year! -Ms. Janice
Fourth:
Fourth grade has just started their work on researching what they want to do for their Mitzvah project! Students will be relating bible stories and Jewish values to the project as they plan it week to week. We're excited to learn about how and why giving back is so important to our identity as a people. -Ms. Sarah
Fifth:
During out Torah sessions, students learn while looking for clues about the Manna. That was a good opportunity to learn how to look for references in the Tanach! -Ms. Risa
Sixth:
We learned about Tikkun Olam (repairing the world). They are learning about how even small actions can be used to make a difference in the world around us. -Ms. Amanda
Seventh:
We have started the new year with a new subject! After finishing the year with Jewish during the colonial period, we have learned a big part of modern Jewish history. As we focus in on the middle part, mostly the Great Migration of European Jews emigrating to America, we see a connection to how our family's American journeys began. Over the next month, our class will be learning about those immigrants, their stories, and learning more about how our families got here and why. We can't wait to see what this research journey will hold! -Ms. Devra
