GRATITUDE...
2017 blessed us with so much at Malachi's! In turn, we were able to share those blessings with those who we serve:
We provided groceries to 37,700 people in need of food.
We served 175 families every week, 49 out of 52 weeks this past year.
We distributed 11,000 lbs. of food every week which is 543,000 lbs. for the year!
Our Hunger Walk Team was 50 strong.
We raised $10K for the Atlanta Community Food Bank which enabled us to buy $8K of food for 16 cents a pound.
We received an outdoor Clothing Bin from Girl Scout Troop 12576.
We distributed 300 backpacks and 600 toys.
We won $5,000 in a charity give-away.
We received a $10,400 grant for meat from the Episcopal Community Foundation.
We served 8,575 hot lunches.
Whew! What a year it was ~ thank you all for your support!
SPEAKING OF OUR WONDERFUL VOLUNTEERS...
We believe that we have the best volunteers anywhere and we have the pictures and numbers to prove it!
Recently we added it up and realized that Malachi's Storehouse needs 80 volunteers every week to open the doors. Really? Yes! Let's break it down for you...
On Sunday, our kitchen team meets to decide what to thaw and cook for lunch on Wednesday. Also, our Sunday Second Helpings hosts assist Second Helpings volunteers deliver and store donations from Trader Joe's and Whole Foods for Wednesday's distribution.
On Tuesday, a team gathers to receive the delivery truck from the Atlanta Community Food Bank and unloads about 3,000 lbs of food. They also set up the Parish Hall and
stage everything for Wednesday's operations.
On Wednesday, 50 of us gather to welcome clients, serve
lunch, distribute clothes and
groceries. We also have
additional volunteers picking up produce from Whole Foods and Costco and delivering it to Malachi's for Helping Feed Atlanta.
On Saturday, a team makes a large Costco pick-up for us to begin the cycle again for the next week.
We are so grateful for our volunteers and we take pleasure in hosting a volunteer appreciation dinner every January to say thank you. 100 Malachi's volunteers and their families joined us for the celebration. We enjoyed dining on Maggiano's Italian food and dancing to songs mixed by Leigh Cooper. Carter Cooper was our guest photographer.
