Dear Church,
We are in the middle of the season of Lent. As last week, Pastor Ian invites us to wear a spot of purple
to worship, and for each of the Sunday's leading to Easter Sunday.
Purple
is the color the church associates with this season, and it is helpful to mark the period in some special way.
Another week, another nor'easter. We are a hardy people! Prayers continue for those on the immediate coastline, who have been especially battered by waves and water, and for those who have been without power for considerable periods of time. But, there is HOPE, because this weekend we Spring Forward, so be sure to set your clocks ahead on Saturday PM, so you don't miss church!!
City Reach this weekend
Tonight and tomorrow, our youth and chaperones will have an eye opening experience, through participation in City Reach in Boston, a program of Common Cathedral. We will be spending tonight with our friends at St. Paul's Episcopal Church on Tremont Street in Boston. Tonight we will tour the streets of Boston with people who have been homeless, and they will show us the city in a way that most will never see. Tomorrow we will be part of an open house offering food that we are providing, and clothing that you have provided through the collection these past few Sundays. Thanks to all who contributed, and have been supporting this activity. I'm sure we all (5 teens and 4 adults), will have something to report on this on Sunday!
Concert on Sunday
On Sunday, March 11, at 3 pm, First Church will present "Three's A Crowd", a concert for all ages. Along with pianists Patricia Clark and Beverly Soll, and organist, Andrew Soll, we will be presenting Peter and the Wolf, Carnival of the Animals, Babar the Elephant, and Rex: the King of Instruments, with lively narrations by Brittany Betts. The music is awesome, the stories are delightful, and the performers couldn't be more excited to share this concert with the young at heart of all ages! We hope you will join us at this free concert, and please bring along the youngsters in your life to enjoy the music, as well!
March 18th Workshop
Is the experience of the storm a spiritual experience for you? Do you think about God, your existence, the fragility of 'stuff,' your vulnerability, your loved ones, your neighbors? Do you think about Jesus? ... all those questions ... If so, why? If not, why not? Is the storm a reflection of/metaphor for the season of Lent?
On Sunday March 18, we will be having a "GrayingGreen" workshop after service in Clarke Hall about the climate.

I will try to finish up the March edition and send it out in the next week. Recent weeks have been hectic with some work activities, and planning for City Reach.

Pastor Ian's Sabbatical, coming soon
Pastor Ian is off on Sabbatical Leave from April 2nd until June 30th. Pam and Ian will be on a pilgrimage walk (160 miles) leaving April 5 for Portugal. After worship on Palm Sunday (March 25th), Pam and Ian will have a "show and tell" about the trip, the paths they will take, and give some backgroound on the "Camino de Santiago" - "The Way of Saint James." As has been announced, T
he Rev. Debra Adams will serve the church as our Sabbatical Pastor. Rev. Debra has great energy and a big heart, is a fantastic pastor and a good friend. Last Sunday, she shared her experience at City Reach with all of us who are going, which was super interesting and helpful.
