Meet the Candidates for the Board of Directors
During the upcoming Colorado PGA Spring Business Meeting, members will elect three Board Members. Four candidates are in the running. Please take a moment to get to know your four candidates!

Ed Marzec, PGA
Assistant Professional, Country Club of the Rockies

Education: Degrees in Industrial Distribution and Technical Communications.Certified PGA Professional - Golf Operations and General Management.
Work Experience: I began in golf as a maintenance staff employee, moved to a caddie eventually becoming a Certified PGA Member. Head Professional experience at Cordillera, Headwaters at Granby Ranch and Ballantrae Golf and Yacht Club.
Volunteer Experience: Colorado PGA West Chapter President and six-year West Chapter Board member, Boy Scouts of America, Vail Valley Junior Golf Association, 1st Tee of Eagle County and Golf In Schools.
Awards/Recognition: Junior Golf Leader-West Chapter, 2006; Horton Smith, 2011; Assistant of the Year, 2012 and 2016; Nominated for Golf Professional and Horton Smith, 2017; Professional Ski Instructor of America Trainer in Alpine and Nordic disciplines.
What should members know about you? I am an avid outdoorsman and photographer. I am ambitious and education focused to better myself and those I work with. I thoroughly enjoy interpersonal interactions where I can share the knowledge I have acquired through schooling, training and teaching.
Reason for running for the board:
The reason I am interested in running for the board is twofold. First, I feel the knowledge that I have been able to obtain during my current tenure on the Board has permitted me to be more effective in my role as West Chapter President and in my position at Country Club of the Rockies. I have gained a better understanding of how an effective board functions to serve its members, as well as the governance that is needed. Secondly, I would like to continue working with some of the brightest and most focused individuals in our Section who can help propel our Section into the future (fellow Board members and Section staff). Being able to represent fellow members, apprentices and associates as I move through my career as a PGA Professional is something I take pride in. I look forward to remaining an active board and committee member to assist in the development of our Section.

Volunteer Experience: VA Hospital visit in multiple years, Free Lessons at Denver Golf Expo in multiple years, Fort Carson Ivy Pro-Am
What should members know about you? I am dedicated to enhancing the PGA brand and helping PGA members and apprentices have all the support they need to be successful in their careers.
Reason for running for the board: The past three years its been great to work with the leadership of the Colorado PGA and help fulfill the mission of the Colorado PGA to serve the member and grow the game. My hope is to remain on the Board of Directors to continue to ensure the Colorado PGA remains a top section in the nation and fulfills the needs of the section's members.

Education: Graduate of Ferris State University PGA-PGM Program.
Work Experience: Graduated PGM in 2005, Worked at Old Marsh GC in Palm Beach Gardens, FL., Worked at Hiwan GC in Evergreen, CO, lastly, have been with GOLFTEC since 2011.
Volunteer Experience: Volunteered with CPGA junior programs while at Hiwan, Denver Golf Expo 10 minute lessons and helped with Senior PGA Championship at CGC.
What should members know about you? Members should know I'm part of the Tournament Committee and have been an active part of the CPGA Section for nine years.
Reason for running for the Board: The reason I'm running for the Board is so I can help the CPGA Section on a bigger stage and also help our Section Members. I want to get to know more of our Members and build good rapport with everyone in the Section. I also want to help the Tournament Committee by being on the board and being a voice for the Tournament Committee.

Work Experience: I have over 25 years of working in the golf industry. Since taking a job as a Seasonal Assistant Pro out of college, I have been fortunate enough during my career to open three new courses, host a PGA Tour event, co-host a U.S. Amateur and glean wisdom from some of the greatest minds in the business.
Volunteer Experience: Colorado Section PGA Board, Church, Special Olympics, Tee It Up For The Troops
Awards/Recognition: Personal - None; Facilities I have managed/opened - Plenty
What should members know about you? That I am passionate for the game, the business and all the people involved in the golf business.
Reason for running for the board: I learned so much about the Section and the PGA of America after getting the opportunity to serve my first term on the Board that I would love a second term to put my knowledge to use and continue serving the members and growing the game in the Colorado Section. Like everyone else, I go to work each day to serve our customers and promote this great game that we all love. I have no hidden agendas and would humbly represent the best interests of the members and the game.

Colorado PGA will host our annual Spring Business Meeting on Monday, March 19, 2018, at Pinehurst Country Club. Attendees will hear from a number of valued partners, elect three board members and will get an update on current activities with the Colorado PGA. Growth of the Game Grant recipients will be announced, as well as the winners of the 2018 Colorado PGA West Chapter Awards. A photographer will be on-hand to take head-shots at no cost to our members.

The deadline to complete this year's PGA Golf Professional Compensation Survey is
March 31, 2018. Completing this survey helps to ensure that one of our Association's most powerful employment tools remains effective for PGA Professionals. PGA members who complete the survey by the deadline can receive up to two (2) Member Service Requirement (MSR) credits
.
**A maximum of eight MSR credits can be earned in one cycle year for completing National/Section Surveys.
Section's participation is key to ensuring the compensation information is valid and meaningful. Support of this important PGA initiative is greatly appreciated.

The Huge Music Festival Coming to Denver's Overland Park has a Name and Date
Denver just got a little more Grandoozy
Denver's Superfly festival will be called Grandoozy,
and it's coming to the Overland Park Golf Course September 14-16. It will announce most of its acts - including three headliners - on March 20, saving some names and other details for subsequent announcements leading up to the festival.

Annual Distance Report Reveals Sizable Jump Across Major Tours
The 2015 and 2016 editions of the Annual Distance Report presented the increases in driving distance since 2003 as a slow creep of around 0.2 yards per year. The 2017 data show a deviation from this trend. The average distance gain across the seven worldwide tours was more than 3 yards since 2016.

PGA of America 'Skeptical' on Rolling Back the Ball
The PGA Tour and PGA of America both released statements Monday in the wake of a joint report from the USGA and R&A that found "concerning" increases
in driving distance over the last year. The PGA stated that it would be polling its members to understand their perspective.
