Help Local Seniors: Volunteer to Offer a Free Ride!
Santa Rosa, CA --- Our older adult citizens are the generation that put America on the road, a fact from which we have all benefitted. Most seniors will outlive their ability to drive and they need our help to get to important places such as doctor appointments or grocery shopping. Now that they are in need of a ride, we can express our gratitude by volunteering to help them get where they need to go.
Help your community by becoming a volunteer driver serving residents age 60 or older and people with disabilities.  There are several throughout the county, and you can train as a volunteer driver with one near you. You'll drive your own car, provide your own gas and make a difference in someone's life.
With the recent devastation of the fires, our community needs to support older adults now more than ever. Says one rider, "This is an excellent service, I am grateful that this program exists. With not a lot of family support, it makes it possible for me to get to needed medical appointments, social events and other services."
Volunteer drivers benefit too.   "Our clients are so grateful and so kind to us," says one volunteer. "We learn about them and their lives. We're enriched beyond compare."

Nominees will include not just those who were of great assistance during the fires, but also those who work hard each day to protect the environment, give students the best education possible, and offer life-saving medical care. Categories include the following: Animal Hero, Blood Services Hero, Disaster Services Hero, Education Hero, Environment Hero, First Responder Hero, Healthcare Hero, Humanitarian Hero (youth and adult), International Services Hero, and Service to the Armed Forces Hero.
