ArtsEmerson Welcomes
U.S. Premiere of 'In The Eruptive Mode'
Starting Jan. 24th
ArtsEmerson is welcoming back Arab theatre-maker Sulayman Al-Bassam with "In The Eruptive Mode," which gives voice to six stories of endurance and resistance by Arab women caught in the turmoil of the Arab Spring. The production will only be at the Paramount Center for one week from Wednesday, Jan. 24th through Sunday, Jan. 28th.
"In The Eruptive Mode" is performed and subtitled in Arabic and English and accompanied by live music. Click here for more information and to purchase tickets. |

Enjoy Bach, Beethoven and More:
Tuesday Recitals at King's Chapel
King's Chapel (58 Tremont St.) offers public
recitals on Tuesdays at 12:15 pm. Violinist Tanja Roos will perform works of Bach, Paganini, Ysaye and Zhangyi on Jan. 23rd. Carson Cooman will play the C.B. Fisk Organ with music by Andreas Willscher on Jan. 30th.
Recitals last between 30 and 40 minutes and feature a wide variety of musical genres and performing artists ranging from local students to traveling performers. BostInno's Startups to Watch in 2018 Event at CIC Boston on Jan. 25th
BostInno is hosting its annual Startups to Watch event at CIC Boston (50 Milk St., CIC Lighthouse Room) on Thursday, Jan. 25th.
 
BostInno announced its annual Startups to Watch for 2018 list in December. It's a collection of early-stage Boston companies predicted for big things in the coming year and beyond.
The event will feature a panel discussion and startup showcase with several of the selected startups.

ArtsEmerson Presenting
Films at Paramount:
'Obsession' Jan. 24th-26th
'Summer (Zomer)' Feb. 2nd
ArtsEmerson is continuing to screen live productions and noteworthy films at the Paramount Center.
On Jan. 24th through Jan. 26th, there will be four screenings of "Obsession," which was broadcast live from the Barbican Theatre in London. The production is a new stage adaptation of Luchino Visconti's 1943 film about a drifter who meets a couple and a fiery affair ensues.
On Friday, Feb. 2nd, "Summer (Zomer)" will be screened. "Set over the course of one sweltering summer, this charming drama focuses on Anna, a quiet teen who yearns to escape the confines of her small town, defined by its ever-looming power plant."

Seeking Sanctuary: Music, Art and
Storytelling Workshop at the
Irish International Immigrant Center
The Irish International Immigrant Center (One State Street, Suite 800) is hosting Seeking Sanctuary: Music, Art and Storytelling Workshop on Thursday, Feb. 1st.
During the free workshop attendees will listen to performances by Palaver Strings musicians, uilleann piper Joey Abarta and Irish composer Charlie Lennon. There will also be a discussion about how the community culture of Ireland has had an impact on the City of Boston.

Tonight: Public Meeting
One Post Office Square
The Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) is hosting a public meeting to discuss a proposal to upgrade the existing property at One Post Office Square tonight (Monday, Jan. 22nd).
Anchor Line Partners and Jones Lang LaSalle Corporation have proposed to replace the existing facade with a glass curtainwall from the ground level to level 30, an overclad system between levels 31 and 38, along with the addition of mid-level and roof-level attractions. The existing parking structure and associated spaces will be demolished and replaced by a new 18-story structure with ground floor retail and drop-off for an automated parking garage.

Public Meeting: 115 Winthrop Square
Impact Advisory Group on Feb. 1st
The 115 Winthrop Square Impact Advisory Group (IAG) will meet to discuss Millennium Partners' proposed development of the former Winthrop Square Garage on Thursday, Feb. 1st at the BPDA Board Room (City Hall, 9th Floor).
This meeting is different than a traditional community meeting. IAG members work closely with the Boston Planning & Development Agency (BPDA) to identify the impacts of a project and recommend appropriate community benefits to offset those impacts. IAG meetings prioritize discussion between the project developer and IAG members.

Bostonian Society Essay Contest for
School-Age Children Due Feb. 15th
The Bostonian Society and Boston Duck Tours, with support from Revolution 250, is sponsoring its yearly essay contest for students to promote an appreciation for the state's history.
The contest is for grades 5-8. Students in grades 5-6 are asked to submit an essay of 300-500 words, and students in grades 7-8 are asked to submit an essay of 500-700 words.
The first place student in each grade group receives a Duck Tour and a visit to the Old State House for his/her class (up to 36 people including chaperones). In addition, the author of the winning essay in the grades 7-8 category will receive a $1,000 scholarship payable upon acceptance to an institution of higher education.

Snow & Cold Weather Safety Info:
Shoveling, Parking and More
Whether you're a property owner, a homeowner or a resident with a car it's important to know about shoveling and parking regulations, snow emergencies and more. The City of Boston has a resourceful webpage providing all necessary info
here, and below is important info to know for when the white stuff comes down.
Shoveling Info:

Property owners must:
- Clear sidewalks within three hours of snowfall ending or three hours after sunrise if it snows overnight, and
- Clear at least a 42-inch-wide path for wheelchairs and strollers.
Do not shovel snow into the street or you can be subject to fines. Also please remember to:
- Remove ice to bare pavement or make as level as possible and treat with sand, sawdust, or similar material.
- Please clear any snow that may be blocking a handicap ramp, fire hydrant or catch basin.
- Don't leave snow or ice on stairways or fire escapes. All common means of exit must be clear in case of fire or another emergency.
What To Do With Your Car When It Snows:
During a snow emergency main roads need to be clear for plows and emergency vehicles. If you're parked on one of these main roads during a snow emergency, you may be ticketed and your vehicle may be towed. How do you know if you can't park on a street during a snow emergency? Check the signs posted on the street. Also, here is map of restricted roads due to a snow emergency.

Please also call the BID's dispatch line at 617-261-0066 to report sidewalks, handicapped ramps or other Downtown Crossing public ways that need to be shoveled. Our Ambassadors will be out in the snow 24 hours a day making sure the sidewalks are clear!

When you know severely cold weather is coming, remember to take steps to prepare. Please also check on your elderly or disabled neighbors, and take caution when using portable heating devices like space heaters. If you have an emergency please call 911.
