Students, Parents, Teachers & Friends of Education,

Itty Bitty Field Day was started out of a desire to see the youngest of Barrow's students actively participate in field day type activities that were designed specifically for them. The goal of this event was to create an environment that was not overstimulating and that was developmentally appropriate in order to ensure that student development is encouraged from the youngest of ages.

Preschool special needs students participated in a variety of developmentally appropriate activities as they were paired with a buddy from Winder Barrow High School. The Chick-fil-A cow made a visit and was one of the morning's highlights. At the conclusion of the event, students enjoyed snacks (provided by various Partner In Education partners) and were awarded a medal for their participation. It was a wonderful event that was enjoyed by the students and parents as was evident by the smiles on everyone's faces. Susan Mullis, adapted PE teacher, and Cyndi White, parent mentor, were instrumental in helping plan this event. The high school buddies were also invaluable...they had as much fun as our preschool students. A big "Thank You" to our Partners In Education: American Pest Control (Winder), Akins Ford, Advanced Driving Academy (Winder), Trim Co Exteriors, Sam's Club (Bogart), Chick-fil-A (Bethlehem), and Nelson Sanders Photography.

Elementary Honor Chorus

The Georgia Music Educators Association recently held the Statewide Elementary Honor Chorus for nearly 500 4th and 5th grade students from around the state. Under the direction of nationally acclaimed children's choral directors Dr. Craig Denison and Mrs. Karen Nicolosi, the students participated in intense rehearsals for several hours then presented a beautiful concert to a packed house at the Classic Center in Athens. Under the direction of Dr. Barbara Porter, students from Holsenbeck Elementary who participated were: Madison Bragdon, Alyvia Gandy, Remy Levya, and Cali Oakes. Under the direction of Mrs. Rachel Muldrow, students from Kennedy Elementary who participated were: Rileigh Bown, Ruth Russu, and Bella Reynolds.
