NEWS
#DCMOVESpoverty

The Dufferin Country Poverty Reduction Task Force (DCPRTF) hosted a Community Poverty Reduction Summit Wednesday Jan 17th at the New Hope Church that raised the awareness of the picture of poverty in Dufferin County to new heights. The summit included three speaker panels and two personal stories presented by Dufferin County citizens.

The agenda included presentations on federal and provincial policy, programs and Poverty Reduction Roadmaps and flowed into a picture, shared by our local human service providers, of the impact of poverty on their clients, and how it's impacting their ability to serve them.

The summit was a success in meeting its objective to create greater awareness around local poverty and indeed it has inspired some attendees to move into action to work on reducing its impact.

Volunteer Dufferin is working with the Career Education Council to participate in a wonderful event on April 17th, during National Volunteer Week.

The event is Career Pathways Dufferin, a one-stop career exploration and community connections event for grade 8 students. An anticipated 1200 students and their teachers will attend, and our focus will be to spotlight the importance of volunteering, and the opportunities available for young people to volunteer in our community.

We hope to find a sponsor for the Community Connections room so that our Volunteer Dufferin/DC Moves members will be able to participate for free. Space will be limited, so stay tuned for details.

And if you know of a business or organization who'd like to sponsor the Community Connections room, please contact Nichole at careered.council@ugdsb.on.ca.
