One
aspect lineman play that is hard to simulate in the weight room is a lineman being either bull rushed or pulled by a DL. The
Tsunami Bar
®
can train your lineman to have better and stronger posture while pass setting.
The lineman starts with the bar being held as if a Zercher squat is about to be performed. He will then begin rocking front to back, this gets the momentum of the bumper plates on the edges of the bar moving back and forth providing tension. The lineman will have to hug the bar tight to his body to keep it from flying off his chest. Not only does the movement provide a stimulus to withstand a push / pull rush by a defensive lineman but also builds the lower levers to generate force forward and backward rapidly.
Lineman must be trained under tension to not only push heavy things forward, but to resist being moved backward or strategically control the rate of advancement by a defensive lineman in order to not give up leverage. This can be achieved in different ways, but they all involve moving and changing direction at various angles rapidly. This also requires a lineman to be in balance, strong enough not to be over committed in either direction.
The Tsunami Bar
® is a great tool for training stiffness in the core. Stiffness that will both give you a medium to transfer force from the upper body to the lower body and vice versa. Everybody wants to do planks to build stiffness in their athlete’s core. The Tsunami Bar
® gives my players a way to build stiffness in their core while still doing a position specific movement.
