 Five years after this dazzling exhibit opened at the VICTORIA AND ALBERT MUSEUM in London its last stop is NEW YORK where DAVID BOWIE'S life and career ended. It  is an historic tour of the great rock star's 50 year career including artifacts, clothing, paintings many of which have never been seen before. You can also enjoy the BROOKLYN MUSEUM'S splendid permanent collections and the adjacent BROOKLYN BOTANIC GARDEN where the roses will be in bloom. COST: $75 for the bus. Admissions costs to the museum and garden are extra.

Our tickets are gone for THREE TALL WOMEN although there are still tickets available to purchase.. After our drop-off in the theater district today we will drive  further downtown to the WHITNEY MUSEUM OF AMERICAN ART. Special exhibits on view there are GRANT WOOD: AMERICAN GOTHIC and OTHER FABLES  and ZOE LEONARD: SURVEY, the first major overview of this acclaimed photographer and sculptor's work in an American Museum. http://whitney.org/Exhibitions There are lots of wonderful places for lunch in the MEATPACKING DISTRICT where the WHITNEY is located and it is an easy taxi ride back to the theater district, one of our pick-up points at the end of the day. COST: Bus price is $70. Admission to the Whitney is on your own.

TOUR OF THE UPPER EAST SIDE

Join us for a wonderful springtime Saturday beginning with lunch (optional) at a local cafe followed by a walking tour in one of the world's most luxurious neighborhoods. Learn about the evolution of the area (East 60's and 70's) from the late 18th century when it was farmland, to Marcel Breuer's Modernist masterpiece on Madison Avenue - the former WHITNEY MUSEUM, now the MET BREUER. The emphasis will be on the GILDED AGE, the late 19th and early 20th centuries when New York's elite resided in their magnificent, opulent mansions there. See sites associated with Richard Morris Hunt and Stanford White as well as the Morgans, Tiffanys and Vanderbilts.  The tour ends at the elegant FRICK COLLECTION, where you can see industrialist Henry Clay Frick's world-class collection of paintings, sculpture, furniture and more. COST: $110 includes the bus and guided tour.

 FRANKLIN D. ROOSEVELT FOUR FREEDOMS PARK

It is the first Memorial dedicated to FDR in New York State and the last work of Philadelphia architect LOUIS I. KAHN. The park is located on the southern tip of ROOSEVELT ISLAND and celebrates the FOUR FREEDOMS: Freedom of Speech, Freedom of Worship, Freedom from Want and Freedom from Fear,  proclaimed by President Roosevelt in his State of the Union address in January of 1941. We will enjoy lunch at an East Side eatery before crossing the East River by tram where shuttles will transport us to the memorial for a private tour and breathtaking views of NEW YORK CITY. COST $100 includes, bus, tram to Roosevelt Island and the tour of FOUR FREEDOMS PARK.
 
We also have a New York trip planned for Saturday, May 26 . You can always ride our comfortable and congenial coach and "do your own thing". Take advantage of our convenient pick up and drop off points and join our regular group of travelers to the BIG APPLE. The bus cost for our New York day trips is $70. CEZANNE PORTRAITS at the NATIONAL GALLERY  
See sixty of PAUL CEZANNE'S portraits drawn from collections from around the world. It is the first exhibition devoted to portraiture by the important post-impressionist painter. Also on view at the NATIONAL GALLERY of ART  is MICHEL SITTOW - ESTONIAN PAINTER AT THE COURTS OF RENAISSANCE EUROPE. The exhibit explores the artist's relationship with his Netherlandish contemporaries and his likely teacher, Hans Memling; an OUTLIERS AND AMERICAN VANGUARD ART, an exhibit showing how self-taught artists have played an important role in the history of modernism. www.nga.gov

In addition we suggest TEN AMERICANS AFTER PAUL KLEE on view at the PHILLPS COLLECTION. This exhibit explores the work of Swiss-born artist PAUL KLEE (1879-1940) and his influence on American artists such as ADOLPH GOTTLIEB, ROBERT MOTHERWELL, JACKSON POLLOCK and others. It features more than 60 works from collections in the United States and Switzerland. The PHILLIPS COLLECTION, locate  in the DUPONT CIRCLE area of Washington, was founded in 1921 by collector DUNCAN PHILLIPS and is America's oldest modern art museum. www.phillipscollection.org . COST FOR THE BUS IS $75. The National Gallery of Art is free. There is an entrance fee to the Phillips Collection.

Thanks to everyone who participated in our annual trip to the the
AMERICAN CRAFT COUNCIL SHOW in BALTIMORE last month. Many of you take this trip every February and for several of you it was your first time. You saw of the nation's highest caliber artisans displaying and selling their work in wood, glass, clay, jewelry, leather, metal and textiles. Our optional afternoon visit to the extraordinary WALTERS ART MUSEUM was enjoyed by all who attended.
